Beautiful packaging
Re: Beautiful packaging
Well, you get a decent box, a fact sheet, and, in some cases, a sticker. Plus a desiccant pack for the tool steels. Some of the upscale pieces come with padded cases. What’s not to like?
Re: Beautiful packaging
The packaging means nothing to me, maybe eye pleasing for about 3 mins… Then I toss it.
I don’t have any real use for little knife box’s.
I’de be okay with the knife being wrapped in brown paper.

Re: Beautiful packaging
I think the packaging is a good balance as they do it now. I would not support fancier packaging.
If there were to be a change, I would go back to either old style gray and black or white boxes.

Re: Beautiful packaging
I wouldn't mind if the boxes were a bit sturdier, I've had several come crushed in the mail and I do store all my knives in their original boxes and after being handled a lot the boxes do start to show some wear. I don't need them to be fancy display boxes but just a bit thicker card stock would be nice.

Re: Beautiful packaging
Packaging for consumer goods should use as little material as possible for environmental reasons. 99% of the boxes are going in the landfill immediately. The rest will follow eventually. As far back as I can remember Spyderco has used these simple thin boxes which I think is great.

Re: Beautiful packaging
I can see keeping a box such as CRK as that is also used to hold the tools that came with that knife. But, other than the perception of having it for possible resale later, once the knife is removed, of what use is the box? What does it contain of any value? As sturdy as Spyderco are, it would probably be just fine to wrap in a cloth and put in a plastic bag, though a light box stacks a little better on a dealer shelf than a bag. I've mentioned this next bit before. Even though my perception was incorrect, if a knife came in too fancy of packaging such as the padded zipper cases, it came across as too fancy to be a user, which is what I want in a knife. Of the nearly 40 Spyderco I've purchased, I currently have 0 boxes. So, I'm all for minimizing packaging costs and planning for recycling of those materials.

Here's a whole case and all the accessories. The knife costs \$500

Re: Beautiful packaging
Add my vote to the pile of folks who are fine with the current box design. I'd rather not see any changes made that will drive up costs any more than they already are. However, I would be understanding if it meant more stickers

Re: Beautiful packaging
I am satisfied with the current Spyderco packaging.
I keep the boxes mainly for storage or resale purposes. The more collectible the item is, the more I want the box that it came in. I could easily see myself purging a bunch of the Spyderco boxes for knives that I regularly use, but I haven't.
I don't use any stickers. I would regularly use bandaids though! Bandaids with the Spyderco bug on them would be neat. Bandaids are stickers too.
I view Spyderco's products as high performance products. There'd be no way that I'd consider throwing out the boxes for my CRKs, which I consider to be more of a lifestyle/status kinda product.
I have received several knives with extra screws or a parts kit in the box, and I'm always thankful to have those things.

Re: Beautiful packaging
On occasion Spyderco actually will change it up from their iconic red and black box packaging.
For the C82 D’Allara Rescue World Trade Center knife, Spyderco packaged that in a laser engraved wooden box.

Spyderco collaborated with Ray Mears to produce the WolfSpyder and that knife included a uniquely printed box.

Spyderco also released a Colorado & US Flag PM2 that came packaged in a custom black box. A very sleek iteration of the traditional red and black boxes. I’m a big fan of this one.

I don’t think Spyderco needs to go out of their way with packaging for their standard lineup, but personally I enjoy seeing special boxes for special knives. They can’t over do it though - Too much of a good, often ruins a good thing.

I had an idea to make branded band-aids. And even found where to make. Not expensiveAladinsane wrote: ↑Fri Oct 10, 2025 10:13 am

I don’t know what you had in mind but I would advise against using any of Spyderco’s trademarks without their explicit permission to do so.Gears_QQQ wrote: ↑Fri Oct 10, 2025 10:26 amI had an idea to make branded band-aids. Resale value if I (or my kids someday) ever sell them, but also for storage. I'm not blowing knife money on a fancy compartment box or a spyderpack or whatever when this works so well.

Re: Beautiful packaging
Funny as collecting watches the exact same subject comes up regularly.
I will answer the same here as I have on a watch forum.
“I would be happy if a $10k Omega Speedmaster watch came in a brown paper bag if it made the watch cheaper”

Im a vegetarian as technically cows are made of grass and water.
Re: Beautiful packaging
I'm very surprised by this. Don't you want a nice box? It won't increase the price of these watches that much
