New Native 5 S90V with carbon fiber
New Native 5 S90V with carbon fiber
Does the New Native 5 in S90Vwith carbon fiber scales have steel liners?
Re: New Native 5 S90V with carbon fiber
No, they are linerless. The description of the knife on Spyderco.com says as much.

Re: New Native 5 S90V with carbon fiber
Are you referring to this one - the C41CFF5 with fluted carbon fiber scales?

It does not have liners. The fluted CF scales are beautifully machined and also grippy enough to be perfectly functional. I think it's one of the most exceptional knives Spyderco produces.
Also FWIW it has been in regular production for a few years now.

I swapped the S90V blade in mine with a Maxamet blade from an N5LW, but regardless it's one of my favorites. S90V is a fantastic steel too. I'd be happy to answer any other Qs you have about the model.

I asked because I have an s110v in g10 with liners. I think I would prefer liners. But I get it … it’s cheaper to make and lighter.
Sorry I have not seen it until recently.
I was thinking another in 15v or pay an extra $40 for S90v? (I guess it matters if I want stainless)

The g10 BBB version doesn't have liners either.Curtissii wrote: ↑Sun Sep 14, 2025 1:18 pmI asked because I have an s110v in g10 with liners. I think I would prefer liners. But I get it … it’s cheaper to make and lighter.

15V is very stainless for a tool steel. I had mine sweaty in my pocket without any signs of patina or corossion. K390 in similar situation get black spots imidiately.Curtissii wrote: ↑Sun Sep 14, 2025 1:18 pmI asked because I have an s110v in g10 with liners. I think I would prefer liners. I have an S35VN G10 Native with liners. Got it in 2021. I think they changed to linerless construction as well as S30V around that time.

Re: New Native 5 S90V with carbon fiber
Many cheap/affordable knives are made with liners, I don't think that played into the equation here.
Unless you're looking for the mental illusion of solidity that the heft of liners liners tend to provide, they wouldn't add anything here. The CF scales are very rigid and are supported by a full metal backspacer. This knife is plenty sturdy without liners IMO.
The upsides though, are quite welcome, but mileage may vary of course. Lighter weight and easier maintenance are my main reasons I generally lean toward linerless. Liners tend collect dirt and hold moisture. And it's not uncommon for rust to form here.

Re: New Native 5 S90V with carbon fiber
Hi there, I noticed the OP mentions doing a swap with the G10 S110V N5 and I should caution that particular iteration of the N5 is subtly different than other models and doesn’t swap properly with other N5s. I’ve done dozens of N5 blade swaps over the years and I’ll never forget the frustrating experience of trying one with the blurple G10 S110V! I’d recommend getting a new 15V one if you want to swap something into the fluted CF scales (I put my 15V blade into the fluted Ti scales without any problem). Hope this helps, Radioactive

Spydiewiki.com wrote:The March 2018 Spyderco Byte newsletter said that Spyderco would be rolling out some CQI changes, namely: S35VN would be replaced with S30V; the G-10 models would be going linerless (except the S110V version due to "special production requirements with midnight blue G-10"); and -as part of going linerless- will use threaded inserts for the clip holes. These changes will take place as current inventory is exhausted.

Re: New Native 5 S90V with carbon fiber
If the last post is a response to my previous one, this is not what I’m talking about. I have zero problems switching blades between basically any version of the N5 — lightweight, linered G10, or the newer linerless G10 models. The one model that didn’t work of all that I’ve tried was the S110V one because the size and layout of the scales and screws is ever so slightly different and I have no idea why.

....
It was mainly a response to approximately when the G-10 Native 5 went linerless.
I have also successfully swapped blades and lockbars (kept together) with linered, unlined, and lightweight Native 5s with no issues. I have never owned a blurple linered S110V Native 5 (mainly due to a lack of interest in S110V), but I have read about swap issues or scale compatibility issues with that one in several different places.
Re: New Native 5 S90V with carbon fiber
Swap the lock bar when you swap the blade. The lock bar material is chosen according to the blade material. They go together.
Re: New Native 5 S90V with carbon fiber
Im wanting to know why 5 s90v over a 15v as the price difference is substantival. S90v =252.77 and lightweight 15v is 158.25? Stainless for $100?
Re: New Native 5 S90V with carbon fiber
Fluted carbon fiber scales vs lightweight frn scales. The last s90v with frn scales was listed for 122.50 a few years ago.
