I might be in minority, but I've been extremely happy with how VG-10 performed on the Temp 2 platform. I think it's a case of the design having more merit than the actual type of steel being used here.
I'd buy a re-run made the exact same as the original.

VG10 might seem boring compared to the latest steels, but it's never let me down.

I've used street beats and street bowies and Police 3's in the woods more times than I can count.

Decent edge holding, fairly tough for a stainless, easy to sharpen and not very expensive. It's a reliable and well rounded steel.

I have a few chef knives made from vg10 as well and I've never had any complaints. I have a vg10 damascus petty that was hardened to 61-62rc IIRC, and it holds an edge quite well.
Remember how I said I'd buy a temperance 2 built the exact same way as the original?

Wasn't kidding :cheap-sunglasses

did not expect to come across one of these in 2025. very excited to try it out as a woods knife this fall!
I love my VG10/Micarta T2. Such a classy woods knife. it has almost 1/2" more blade than the cruwear making it 'feel' like a big knife.

Full Tang is also classy and beefy.

I liked the sprint so much I was lucky to pick it up around the same time. Congrats on a good find!

thanks! between the larger blade, full tang weight and contoured micarta without the circular divots, I'm sure it'll feel quite a bit different than my sprint temp 1.

It's one of those designs I've been kicking myself for not picking up when it was a current production piece. Glad to get another chance.

Already got my shipping notification. Once it arrives I'm pairing it with my Ontario Bushcraft machete and using it to get my private camp site prepped for fall!

3V seems like a pretty wild departure from the suggestion of 15V.

10V, K294 or T15 would be my suggestion.

I have one of the gray-handled, sprint run models in Cruwear. Great steel, great knife.
Oldest: 1974 Buck 110.
Newest: MagnaMax MT46P & MT46S
Knives owned: Too many, yet always finding another.

This knife feels better than some customs I've owned.

I'd really like to see it brought back.

I could go for 3V, M4 or Magnacut myself.

I'd probably buy any sprint of this spyderco releases. This is a very, very nice fixed blade.

I got a brand new Temperance 2 for a little over $100 from an old sporting goods store when they were going out of business. Wholly agree, it’s easily one of the nicest feeling fixed blades I own from Spyderco.

CruWear with grey micarta would be a cool companion to the recent sprint of the original Temperance. I would take any other configuration as well though - it would be difficult to go wrong.

Hi Carpdiem,

Probably a real long shot. It doesn't look like we are going to me able to get any more of Shawn's 15V and what we have has already been earmarked. If it were possible to squeeze in a sprint version of that model with a different steel, what would work for you? Perhaps to "seize another day".

Thanx for the kind words on the design. The Temperance was one of my earliest fixed blade design, so I've got a soft spot for the design. I hand carved the Temperance 1 out of wood. The version that you have was my attempt to try to make the design more "General Use", Camp knife, food prep, all purpose, while the original design (Temperance 1) was leaning to Martial Blade Craft.

It's one of my favorite fixed blade designs, but I'm pretty biased.

It would be cool to see it in Z-Max.

If we can get it with teeth in 3v I'm all in. If we can't get it with teeth but still 3v, I'm all in.
😂

I second this 👍🏻

I really hope this comes back. Falling in love with this design. FRN & 420HC would be fine with me even. This might just be Sal's most ergonomic design.

I think the Mule XL that Sal is working on could serve as an effective replacement. I’m a big fan of the Temperance 2 as well though, so I wouldn’t balk at a sprint run.

Mule XL? First I've heard of that!

Though they could save the work and just take the Temp2 profile and make that the Mule XL! :D

Het Nick,

The sample we're making for Al to test has a longer blade than the T2. As I remember, it's in the 6.0" blade range. Roque is working on it now.

I think I can get a temperance 2 Sprint going. The knife is quite expensive, even in G10, due to the formed scale. Shipping a different steel to Japan would add to that cost. We discoed the piece due to the high cost. I guess we could use a different color handle?

Thanx for the kind words on the design, Vivi. As I've said before, we have similar tastes. A lot of time went into the development of the model. We're just setting up a display of the design in the store, including the hand carved first piece.

I'll be in for a few Mule XL's, and T2's if they're brought back.

Maybe a japanese steel would be better to keep costs lower?

I'm very happy with VG10, but I don't think the market would be very excited for a VG10 sprint in 2025.

Maybe VG XEUS? HAP40? K390?

I'd lean a little more towards toughness than raw edge retention for a T2 sprint myself, but I'm not really up to date on the latest well rounded japanese offerings.

I'd be fine with stainless or carbon steel, G10 or micarta.

For color I'll always vote green :cheap-sunglasses

I'll try to make it out to Golden one of these years and see that display in person Sal.

Add me to the Temperance 2 fan club. I inherited mine from my father. How it feels in hand plus how it looks to my eye are both chef’s kiss. Sal may design in the dark, but the T2 is one of the most beautiful knives I own.

Hrm... if the sprint run needs to come from a Japanese steel... there's a great powder metallurgy steel that's used in a few very nice Japanese chisels I own (https://thenomishop.com/fumatsu-haisu-p ... eel-chisel) that holds up amazingly for chopping jobs through even western hardwoods. I think it's from Hitachi? I'll see if I can figure out more specifically what it is... might be an interesting option.

I’ll buy a couple of Temp 2’s in any steel. I’ve fancied one of those for ages.

I'd be down for another Japan made fixed blade. My vote goes to SuperBlue, but I'd like either k390 or HAP40 as well.

I hope we see a sprint of the Street Beat some day too.

I’ve been mulling this over since I first read this thread and I can’t think of a better knife for a beautiful san mai blade, or even one with a differential hardening hamon 🤤 I’d pay top dollar for either of those.
