Any Plans for a non-lightweight Chaparral in Serrated Edge
Any Plans for a non-lightweight Chaparral in Serrated Edge
After reading a lot of posts about the topic on this forum and picking up my first serrated edge folder, a Salt 2 Wharncliffe, I'm an SE convert. I was looking at the Chaparral recently and noticed that SE only seems to be available on the lightweight FRN version, which is a shame, given the beautiful handle options on the some of the PE Chaparral models. Are there any plans to release a non-lightweight Chaparral in SE?
Re: Any Plans for a non-lightweight Chaparral in Serrated Edge
It would certainly entice me to buy more Chaps. But, I must say I really do like the FRN and the pattern on this one, it's a nice design and I really like the shade of gray.
The problem I think you might run into is the price of the fancier options might be even more than the price of buying the FRN version and then buying custom scales yourself. If you just don't want to modify your knives then I get that, but for example the upcoming shredded carbon fiber model is going to cost you more than the base model plus custom scales.

I like the FRN scales on the lightweight Chaparral as well, it's more that almost all my Spydercos are FRN and I'm looking to change it up a bit. I didn't see much in the way of after market scales for the Chaparral, but it's something I'm open to if I can find a place that has some.

One option that I sometimes do when I can't get the blade handle combo I want is buy two knives, one with the handle I want and one with the blade I want and then either swap the scales or swap the blades. Then either keep both or sell the combo I didn't want as much. In your case you would be selling a plain edge lightweight which would be easy enough to move at the right price.

Who makes scales for the Chaparral? Ripp's Garage Tech and RC Bladeworks are the only ones I know of.

RGT make Micarta, G10 and Ultem scales, though I would contact them and make sure they'll fit. Their pictures/descriptions show the SE model as the one that fit these scales but I'd still ask before ordering.

Unfortunately, Steve hasn't made scales for the Chaparral lightweight yet, only the full liner version.Evil D wrote: ↑Wed Sep 10, 2025 1:58 pmburley_c wrote: ↑Wed Sep 10, 2025 1:31 pmI like the FRN scales on the lightweight Chaparral as well, it's more that almost all my Spydercos are FRN and I'm looking to change it up a bit. The LW is the better one to make aftermarket scales for, at least IMHO.

Yeah, seems more likely to me that people would want to swap out FRN than any of the fancy options that the others come with.

Re: Any Plans for a non-lightweight Chaparral in Serrated Edge
I'm really glad you posted this, because I was about to order a serrated LW Chap and a pair RGT scales.
RC Bladeworks offers scales for only the LW Chap, and they cost almost as much as the knife. They're nice, though.
