Military 2 vs PM2 vs Para 3 G10 magnacut salt (fishing)
Military 2 vs PM2 vs Para 3 G10 magnacut salt (fishing)
I want to grab one of these but I cannot decide which one I want. The scales look really cool combined with the blacked out look.
In my collection, I've got a bunch of para 3/para 3 lightweights and one pm2 so I have a good sense of the size difference. I really enjoy the para 3 size and find it to be good almost all the time.
I do not have a military 2 yet so I am leaning towards it but I wonder if it might just be too big (part of me just wants to have one version of each of the para3, pm2 and military 2 in my collection).
I do a lot of fishing so I'd be carrying it for fishing primarily.
Anyone else using the Military 2 for fishing?

I don't get to fish as much as I used to, and not nearly as seriously as some guys here but I'd still go with a Military 2 for size reasons.
That said my tackle box has had a Victorinox SAK in it for probably 25 years now.

Really depends on your size preference and happy place in hand . My choices would be the M2 Salt , Caribbean, or a Siren . MG2

I do! It works well for fishing and waterworld type activities!toml4185 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 28, 2025 9:05 amI want to grab one of these but I cannot decide which one I want. The scales look really cool combined with the blacked out look.

Re: Military 2 vs PM2 vs Para 3 G10 magnacut salt (fishing)
for me it's easily the Military, by a long shot.
best ergonomics, most room for my grip, and the extra cutting edge is very useful.
the pm3 and pm3 don't feel good behind the choil to me, which is my primary grip.
while I haven't written a military 2 review, here's my gen 1 review for a more detaiped analysis.

I agree with Vivi, the Military 2 Salt is a great choice, and I don't have Mongo Mitts! (very large hands)
Re: Military 2 vs PM2 vs Para 3 G10 magnacut salt (fishing)
Well I would go with H2/LCN200 over magnacut for fishing but if you must the military has the longer blade. When multi using, the longer blade will come in handy. I prefer the pm2 for daily use and para3 for street carry because it’s awesome. But for fishing you need a bigger blade.

I’m going to pull the trigger on the military 2 when it is back in stock :-)

Are you cleaning fish or trimin braided line?

Re: Military 2 vs PM2 vs Para 3 G10 magnacut salt (fishing)
I've pre-ordered it.
I have a Catcherman for cleaning fish since I do think a bit of flex and a very thin blade is needed for that.
This would just be a general blade to have on me. I do sometimes fish with braided line in the salt and yes, I am often having to trim it.
I like to fish as much as I can but do I need a military 2 purely for my fishing endeavors? Not at all.
Do I want one because it's cool and because it's a gap in my collection, yes :-)

The new scales on the Military 2 Salt are to die for guys, hands down a must have knife for me. I love mine.
I have a host of other Military 2's and I really like each and every one of them too, but the M2 Salt is in a league all by it self...

Re: Military 2 vs PM2 vs Para 3 G10 magnacut salt (fishing)
i was going to suggest the military because the longer blade will give you better geometry for cleaning fish due to the taper of the blade. in other words, more of the blade is thinner compared to the shorter blades. but even if you're not cleaning fish with it, i'd still recommend the military because it's a great knife, as long as it's legal where you are.
you may also want to consider a stretch 2 xl salt with serrations. it would compliment a military salt very nicely.

Well, I am looking forward to getting it. Very funny you should talk about the Stretch 2 XL Salt - I picked that up a while back and I really enjoy it.ladybug93 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 30, 2025 3:47 ami was going to suggest the military because the longer blade will give you better geometry for cleaning fish due to the taper of the blade. in other words, more of the blade is thinner compared to the shorter blades. but even if you're not cleaning fish with it, i'd still recommend the military because it's a great knife, as long as it's legal where you are.

You will be satisfied with the M2 Salt. I cleaned some Salmon last night, using PM2 and M2. I thought rhe M2 would be too big but it wasn't. Both have the excellent grip with the textured/milled G10 handles especially when your hands are slippery with fish blood and slime.

Great to hear and nice Salmon btw :-)ed9957 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 02, 2025 9:06 amYou will be satisfied with the M2 Salt. I cleaned some Salmon last night, using PM2 and M2.
