Vandyman,

Absolutely killer shot there... heck here my K390 gets this corrosion on it, almost as I watch it lol. I got and use Frog Lube also.

Heck I would love my K390 to stay nice clean and shiny, I would never force a patina on my knives lol...

I think the difference is I am a bigger more sweaty nasty hog, than you sir lol.

Did a 6 hour hike to Comet falls and the surrounding area. Carried the LeafJumper in my 5th pocket where it got soaked in sweat. Not sure why mine isn’t rusting like others are reporting. All I can figure out is that I wipe it down with Frog Lube oil before I leave home and use a lightly Frog Lube oiled rag, as soon as I’m done with whatever activity I’m doing, to wipe it down again. Thinking of cleaning it and forcing a patina since it’s not getting a patina fast enough for me.
That blade still looks brand new. Does that frog lube make the action gummy?

I use the knife mainly as an edc, garden, and paracord cutting knife. It gets used a lot but has not needed to be sharpened at all.

I wouldn’t call it gummy since it dries nicely if you lets it sit after you wipe off excess oil. I usually wipe it dry again the next day after oiling. The pivot can get a little sluggish if it sits for too many days. I either work the pivot by opening and closing till it opens smoothly again or if I’m in a rush I’ll just add fresh frog lube oil. Problem solved. I think it gets sluggish because the oil leaves a dry finish not an oily finish.

I’m thinking of trying KPL pivot lube on just the pivot in the future. Someone recommended it but I’m not sure who.

Update:
I meant to update yall a few days ago, but I was a little busy. I sharpened it up and it got extremely sharp, a lot of bite, and cut through fragile paper cleanly. So, I carried my k390 outside where I got drenched in sweat. Afterwards, it still cut great with no hang-ups on paper. I went to sleep, next morning, still just as sharp.

That day, I opened up some packages, specifically the tape and applied moderate light pressure to the edge on a cardboard/plastic food container. That is all I cut, and whilst being indoors the whole day btw. That night, the edge was pretty dull as there was no bite left and it could barely cut printer paper.

I decided to sharpen it up a few days later and discovered that with my cheap microscope, the apex was completely blunted. When I started sharpening, I expected a burr to quickly form because maybe I just had a really bad foil burr that was mushed, but aligned and was obscuring the apex. Unfortunately, it sharpened as slow as an edge that was dragged along a brick.

What is going on :(

I feel bad for you and your experience with this steel. I’d suggest sending it into Spyderco for sharpening with a detailed explanation as to what’s been happening with it. If that’s a possibility for you.

That sounds like a good idea, ill do that sometime if shipping isn't too expensive.
