Re: Native Lwt Magnacut SE thoughts
I think I have a thread about it somewhere. I like it a lot, but choose the Chief over it, was using it for yard work just today. Both of mine came ground below 15 degrees so you can sharpen them on either the 15 or 20 slots on a Sharpmaker.
I find it to be very similar to LC200N, most probably couldn't tell them apart in a blind test.

Re: Native Lwt Magnacut SE thoughts
I have it in LC200N and it, and the the SE Tasman salt, are my best gardening knives. LC200N SE takes a long time to dull and easy to sharpen, even when some scallops are visibly bent. I have the Magnacut Native in PE and it also does well in the garden and as a general EDC. Mine is at a point when it can't shave and even slicing paper is iffy, but still has the factory edge after a year, of carry. Magnacut SE should outcut LC200N SE.

I have an SE Native Salt in LC200N and it is fantastic. I have used it for years and it's a favorite.
I do have a PE model in MC, which is great too. I already have 3 Native Salts and maybe will end up with an SE MC model too eventually-- but i'm in no hurry. The SE LC is no slouch and touches up to razor sharp easily.

No serrated MagnaCut….yet. But I have two serrated Salts in LC200C and an old serrated Pacific Salt in H1, all three are great, solid performers! I don’t see how MC could be any better?
As for the Native, the green Salt in LC200 to me is one of the best looking Spyderco’s ever!

Re: Native Lwt Magnacut SE thoughts
Thanks everyone, I do enjoy my Pacific Salt SE a lot , but all my other Salt models are PE . I have been thinking about a Native Magnacut basically to be a right pocket carry ( I’m a lefty ) to have more versatility . All comments were appreciated and thank you ! MG2

Amazing tool to be fair. The weight is perfect and it’s very strong. Magnacut makes it basically care free. I don’t use mine often, mostly for rope cutting or in a bag in case of emergency use.
As EDC I find it a bit dull and I SE a bit annoying, but that’s because I’ve too many options.

Re: Native Lwt Magnacut SE thoughts
I bought one of these when they first came out and have given it a fair bit of use. The Magnacut has been robust and held an edge very well in SE. Mine is also ground more acutely than 15° and is a pleasure to sharpen and has outstanding cutting performance. The N5 LW is an extremely solid knife and I use this one when I want something I can rely on and not be bothered with maintenance. It's an excellent option for motorcycle travel. I often carry it in my pants pocket paired with a Siren in my jacket.Manixguy@1994 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 13, 2025 11:12 amAnyone have any opinions of the Native using the model in SE ? Here it is relaxing in the middle of nowhere.

This was the camp.
I am about to head out into western Queensland again for a few weeks and this time I might pair it with my DLC Native Chief LW. The N5 can handle the need for robustness and the NC is a great slicer for food prep. This trip will be to celebrate my 60th birthday and I will be on my KTM 1090 and my brother will be with me on his newly acquired KTM 950. Heaps of preparation going on at present and which knives are of course an important consideration. The SE Magnacut N5 has certainly earned its place and will be one of them.

Thank you Dan ! I hope you have a safe and fun trip . Your Siren / Native combo is exactly what I would do myself . Re: Native Lwt Magnacut SE thoughts
FWIW, I have the Native 5 serrated in both LC200N and Magnacut. It’s a great compact cutting tool, can’t go wrong with either. I added lynchnw clips to both, now they are perfect for my use.

It’s great. I had one and beat the crap out of it. A lot like S30v, but better!Manixguy@1994 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 13, 2025 11:12 amAnyone have any opinions of the Native using the model in SE ? I want to try out Magnacut in SE but would appreciate feedback . MG2

Specialised equipment for the dedicated remote area testing of Spyderco knives! N5 Magnacut SE, Pac Salt 1 and Waterway on board. The N5 was excellent as always and the Waterway was a fantastic general food prep knife.JARHEAD wrote: ↑Thu Aug 07, 2025 2:26 pmR100 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 14, 2025 6:17 pmI bought one of these when they first came out and have given it a fair bit of use. I'm going to take a guess and say you've seen the Long Way 'Round series? These are the sort of shenanigans I'd be getting myself into if I had Ewan McGregor money
~David
Re: Native Lwt Magnacut SE thoughts
I have seen the first one but we're the opposite end of the spectrum to Ewan McGregor. The bike in the foreground is my brother's 2004 KTM 950 and he paid the equivalent of $3900 US dollars for it a month ago. I paid a little over twice that for my 1090 during a late mid-life crisis and that's the most I've ever spent on a vehicle. We dry our food and supplement with a few wild harvested plants and even fresh roadkill if it's available. Every so often when we pass through a bush town we might get a bit of steak or a few sausages at a butcher. We camp for free and cook on a fire. We spend less money when wandering around in the bush than staying at home.Evil D wrote: ↑Fri Aug 08, 2025 3:24 amR100 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 08, 2025 2:50 amSpecialised equipment for the dedicated remote area testing of Spyderco knives! My greatest personal extravagance is really Spyderco knives. I have spent way too much money on them over the years and have accumulated a foolish number. I do love to obsess over which ones to take each time I go away. I'm still on my way back from this trip and will be gone again on a two week work trip into similar country with a different set of knives in 10 days time. I'm already thinking about which ones!
