I'm sure I'm sounding like a broken record by now but, if it would be possible to put a Plunge Lock into a Bodacious, I think it would make an excellent Autonomy 3.
I think it differs enough in the grip shape, particularly at the butt end of the handle, to make it different enough to justify it being an Autonomy 3 and not be too similar to the 2.
I think you could make this in two sizes like the Citadel was, make one with about 3.75 inches of edge and one with just under 3 inches of edge so they appeal to a wider audience and could sell in more places. Automatics are now legal in more places than ever and I think the market for automatic Spydercos needs more options.

Re: Autonomy 3 wish list
I could really use a lightweight frn rustproof LC200N/Magnacut auto (preferably with no finger choil, a neutral grip, and utility minded blade) for work and trail bicycling. I’m in the market for that and the market is pretty empty.
A Spyderco/Protech collab on the PM2 would likely generate more profit than the GDP of some nations and never be in stock not once for 3 years.

You're definitely onto something here. A Plunge Lock Bodacious as an Autonomy 3 would be a logical and exciting evolution in Spyderco's automatic lineup.
Why It Makes Sense:
Plunge Lock Integration – A proven mechanism in the Autonomy series, making it reliable and familiar.
Ergonomic Differentiation – The Bodacious' handle shape (especially the butt end) would set it apart from the Autonomy 2, preventing redundancy.
Size Variations – A 3.75-inch version for those who prefer larger autos (akin to the Citadel 92mm) and a sub-3-inch version for legal compliance in more regions.
Growing Market Demand – Automatic knives are becoming legal in more areas, making now a perfect time for Spyderco to expand the lineup.
Potential Considerations:
Blade Steel Options? Would it retain LC200N like the Autonomy series, or could we see Magnacut for broader appeal?
Handle Material? G-10 seems likely, but would a lightweight aluminum variant be worth considering?
Intended Use? Would this be positioned as another maritime-duty knife or more of a general-purpose auto?
If Spyderco is watching, this would be an excellent addition to the lineup. Have you pitched this idea to the Spyderco forums or Sal Glesser directly?

I don’t know how to manufacture autos but I heard they can be finicky. I’ve noticed most modern autos have an aluminum construction. I wonder if there’s a reason for that. There are G10 automatic knives, of course. I’m just wondering if there’s a manufacturing reason for there seemingly being a preference towards aluminum construction (I happen to love aluminum automatics so I guess that’s good for me.)drobrnomieszcz wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2025 1:36 amYou're definitely onto something here. Also, after checking out a Bodacious in-person, I see where both of yall are coming from. I really liked it.
I’m no business person, but I think an expansion of Salt series autos is a good idea, even if put into more edc models. Autos make great work and sporting tools, so having them rustproof as much as possible is a great thing. Additionally, I might be paranoid, but I do worry about corrosion inside my autos but I despise taking them apart.
I’ll keep replying to this thread as often as needed. I’d strongly like Spyderco to make more automatic knives. There’s a growing market and they’re so useful not having to worry about a detent when doing physical activity and not having to worry about successful deployment when preoccupied.

Re: Autonomy 3 wish list
I'm sure they have to look at the sales of the current options and decide if it's worth the investment in making a new model, but I also think you always have to question whether it's the automatic aspect or the design aspect that's keeping sales from being higher. Other companies are selling out the side automatics like pancakes on Sunday, I don't see why the designers at Spyderco couldn't compete. Spyderco has an extremely special lock/pivot design with the Plunge Lock, it offers serviceability that I'm not aware of any other brand offering, and it's a shame it's only been used in two models. They could be offering different blade shapes and steels and cranking out automatic designs like anyone else.
