Ball Cage lock Sage 7?

Wondering why the ball cage lock is only used in the Manix 2? If Spyderco holds the patent, why not maximize before it becomes a free for all like the Axis lock and now soon to be Compression lock?

It's been discussed a lot, and it seems inevitable to happen someday if a 3" Manix2 doesn't happen first. One issue could be the handle height, like it was on the Sage3.

While not as practical, I would lobby for the BBL without the cage, as long as they don't need to enlarge the handle like the Sage3. Something's special about the exposed ball lock IMO.

Even the Button Actuated Compression Lock is late. Other manufacturers are already bringing competing designs to market.

I just saw a video where Seth V. (Knife Center) points out Leatherman's new take on the Compression Lock. But it isn't new. Spyderco did something similar with the Autonomy years ago.
