Lost, misplaced, disappeared, stolen
Touchy subject and hopefully not one you will experience, but for those of us who have, let's share with others the where, when, how, and why of our lost Spydies, and thru that 'sharing' maybe others will forgo the same life lessons.
Here's mine -
Subject Spyder: UKPK Salt Spyderedge (yellow)
Where: Barn on a farm
When: Approx 2 yrs into ownership
The incident: Putting in some cattle mangers for a winter barn, whilst also clearing the weeks accumulated muck with the telehandler, took knife from pocket to trim some baling twine, thought that I'd safely sequestered back in pocket but must have missed the pocket or caught the clip on clothing, realised probably less that 15 mins later knife was not on person, nothing found after extensive searching.
Verdict: Seriously not impressed with self, knife probably spread on a field as part of manure...

Re: Lost, misplaced, disappeared, stolen
Not spydie specific, but a valuable lesson.
In some international airports, there may be a separate security pre-check at the door when first entering the airport that is different than the main security check you pass through when heading to the gate. Even if you make sure to properly move any knives to bags that will be checked, it may not be enough.
In this case, I think it was at Paris Orly airport. The security lady at the door saw the knives on the scanner and wanted to verify them. And, of course, everything is rush, rush, rush. So, she opened various bags and pulled out the several knives I had. After the check, she randomly dumped the knives back in the bags, but not the same bags. One of the knives was dumped into my carry on backpack without me noticing it. As you can guess, later at the main security check, they caught it and confiscated it.
Lesson learned: Try to have them slow down and only check one type of bag at a time or, ideally, a single bag at a time. This may help prevent any checked knives from moving from where you put them.

I had one of the old integral-clip Delicas confiscated at Orly in Paris, and an ATS-34 Military stolen from my truck while it was in the shop.

Re: Lost, misplaced, disappeared, stolen
I lost a 2013 forum Native 5. It was special because I believe it was the first folder Spyderco made in S110V, and the milled G10 texture was a nice touch.

I carried it one day, and when I looked for it a few days later it was nowhere to be found. That was about 3 years ago. I looked everywhere, it is still gone. I have no idea.
I lost several SAKs over the years when I still carried them loose in pocket. They tend to slip out when you're seated.

Re: Lost, misplaced, disappeared, stolen
I've never lost a Spyderco, not permanently, at least. I thought I lost a Delica (combo edge, blacked out) once but it turned up 3 weeks later: it had found its way underneath the driver's seat of my car. Also thought I lost the serrated Manbug I normally have on my keychain one winter when one of the keyrings snapped. Unbeknownst to me at the time, the knife fell into a snowbank at my workplace's parking lot. Fast-forward a month later when the snow started melting & one day, while pulling into my usual parking spot, there it was! Minimal rust, too, that cleaned up really easily.
I'd lost a couple of non-Spyderco budget folders when I was younger & more careless with my stuff (and just more careless in general, both knives were lost while I was out partying). I also lost a Leatherman Sidekick (along with a couple other tools) when my car got broken into several years ago. But for as long as I've been carrying folders/multitools, I'm actually surprised at how relatively few I've lost. I've probably lost/broken more mobile phones than knives in the same time period.

So easy to do with the UKPK. You can never feel them in your pocket and the wire clip does seem to have a way of snaging loops of anything string, twine, or cord like. Still in my top 5 though and wouldn't love it nearly as much with a spoon clip.
My dad left one in a golf cart 25ish years ago. Wish I knew what model.

Re: Lost, misplaced, disappeared, stolen
The Native American Indians have some ideas about this. They know of the existence of "the little people," so called because they are about three feet tall. They don't know for sure if the little people are real, or if they are spirits. They've seen them for sure, but it's too hard to tell. Anyhow, whenever a person loses something, the little people will find it, and they will put it to a spot where it can be found by someone who will want it. The finder is allowed to keep it until they meet someone who needs it; then they must pass it on to them.
So: if you should happen to find a lost Spyderco, you may keep it until you meet the person who was meant to be its new owner.

Cinder block in Ft. Huachuca barracks claimed a Police model. Hid for a "surprise" room inspection.
Police model stolen out of a "locked" duffle bag wrapped in a sock inserted into a boot.
Endura lost in patrol base near CamP Rudder.
Endura I loaned my wife, she hasn't given it back.

Yes Sydney Harbour claimed a few Catchermen in the 90s.StuntZombie wrote: ↑Tue Jun 10, 2025 3:54 pmThe Chesapeake Bay claimed an Endura 3 and Delica 3 back when I worked on a charter boat.
Myself and Friends leaving them on bait boards when moving spots.
Did find a pacific salt that was presumed lost (about 3 years) but was found in a seat well when I pulled a seat out to move it, on my boat here in Northern Australia

I’m certain I haven’t lost my REX121 Sage5. It’s somewhere in my house.

Orange H1 Spyderhawk. Lost in Maui. Guess it wanted to stay in the pacific.
Re: Lost, misplaced, disappeared, stolen
Delica III olive drab combo edge black blade lost after going to see the Star Trek reboot at a movie theater in Bluffton, SC. It was my second Spyderco and my first Delica. I had used it hard and it really set the hook for me with Spyderco.

I've lost about 8 Spyderco knives since the late 90s.

I lost my Spyderco Hunter some 30 years ago, in the field near the base of the waterfall at Telluride. It must not have been securely clipped to my pocket.

Re: Lost, misplaced, disappeared, stolen
I lost my Spyderco Native several years ago at work. It was the cool version with the scales that looked like a spiderweb and the swedge on the blade, S30V.
Anyway, it seemed notorious for wanting to work out of my pocket, and sure enough, towards the end of the day I noticed that it was gone! I looked everywhere, but never found it! I was worried that it fell in a bin and got shipped to a bottler!! I think it either fell out in the restroom, or got lost in the recycle scrap when I was crawling in a machine after it alarmed.
I think I only paid $60 for it! Much less than they are going for now!!
