Pop’s Procut - Larrin Thomas Carbon Steel

Haven’t seen anything posted here on this (I’m sure I’m wrong) Could be a very interesting option.

From their website:

A collaborative design between Knife Steel Nerd's Larrin Thomas and Pop's Knife Supply.

This carbon steel has the perfect balance between toughness and edge retention. It's extremely forgiving to heat treat, with exceptional hardness and ultra fine grain structure. It's also an alternative for 15N20 in making high performance damascus. This steel has great stability in quench and is easy to work with and grind, even at higher hardnesses.

1550 degrees with a 450 temper lands at 62HRC.

1500 degrees with a 375 temper lands at 63HRC.

Further heat treat information will be available upon completion of further testing.

C- .866 Si - .215. Mn - .352 Cr - .24 Ni - 1.99 V - .23 W - 1.23

I saw it yesterday and ordered a bar to make some kitchen knives out of, I usually use MagnaCut for the stainless ones and 26c3 for the carbon steel, I'll be switching to ProCut most likely for the carbon steel and maybe MagnaMax for the stainless depending on how hard it will be to finish.

I'm definitely interested in hearing how you like it. I saw a few youtube reviews and it looks very promising and matches well with LT's other steel Magnamax.

Yeah, I saw someone mention this in another thread and went to the Pops site to check it out. As a carbon lover, this is a very interesting steel to me, although I don't know what to expect from it in the real world yet. This is more up my alley than MagnaCut even though it probably isn't particularly groundbreaking.

While it might not be ground breaking it certainly has some VERY interesting properties. HRC of around 67 as quenched and very resistant to temper, so from what I'm seeing tempering at 375 will give you around HRC 65 which is CRAZY. Easy to harden to it's full potential even in a forge. Very tough for it's hardness.

I'm looking forward to grinding some very thin kitchen knives in it at HRC 64-65 or so.

These properties would certainly put it in a class by itself, much like MagnaCut is enjoying in the stainless space.

Oh, that sounds like it will be fun to try making. A lot of people think the HRC 61-62 that my kitchen knife has is pretty hard, 65 would be impressive.

I'm sure it will be easier than the MagnaCut knives I ususally make at 63-64 lol.
