Welcome Erica's EDC to the forum
Re: Welcome Erica's EDC to the forum
Welcome Erica. I'm sure you will be a valuable member of our forum. I learned of your YouTube channel through the forum and it was a revelation to me. You actually use and sharpen the knives you review! You are also great at articulating your ideas and opinions.
I had a motorcycle accident and was laid up with a broken ankle recently and spent way too many hours immersed in Erica's EDC and going down the rabbit holes of the interesting makers you mention. I'm usually extremely active and it was one of the things that stopped me going crazy.
I love the glimpses into your life and community too. I think you'd fit right into the rural community I live in and with my kids and nieces and nephews. America and Australia are so different in some ways and so similar in others.

I don't watch a lot of Youtube, (though I am thinking I will have to take a look at your channel now) so it is cool to have you join the forum here Erica.
Hope you have a good time here on the form!

Another welcome, Erica!
There are a lot of "reviewers" on youtube that in my opinion are really not that (more like "first impression of a knife that does not get really used" - folks, which is fine, but not what I´d like to watch).
Your channel is a true exception here and I enjoy the knowledge and insight you bring - on a lot higher level than I could myself when it comes to steels and sharpening.
/ At one point perhaps you´d might want to try out a good serrated Spydie (the edge type I personally clearly prefer over PE for EDC), I´d be curious what your assessment would be....

Re: Welcome Erica's EDC to the forum
Erica,
I'm so glad you decided to join. Welcome!
I haven't watched a ton of your older videos, but I've seen a lot of your content within the past year or so. Something I appreciate about your work is how you put a lot of emphasis into the edge and the performance of the specific knife within the context of using it in real-world working conditions. It means a lot to avg folks who also use these knives day-to-day. I think you are in good company around these parts.
Something I've noticed in some of the last few videos I've watched is how you may find yourself in a self-critical moment and assign very little, or even negative, worth to your work, your ideas, or yourself, and I can only wish in those moments that you saw the good that you bring to so many people. So, I have a daughter (she's 11), and we've been working through some of the same vibes with her, around sort of that negative self-view. I think at times we can all struggle. And it can be so hard to hear some of those perspectives come from someone that you love and think the world of.
In any case, I sincerely hope that you feel the appreciation here that many have for your work and the gratitude for your willingness to relate your experiences. That sort of thing can end up mentoring and teaching a lot of people, without you even knowing. Thank you for all your hard work and for sharing it!
PS - I second @Wartstein: Sal and Eric have both said that their craziest edge holding was found in serrated H1/H2, and that, plus the serrated Chapparal and anything serrated K390 blows a lot of plain edge knife performance out of the water. Definitely worthy of a look/test!

Hi Erica, welcome to the forum!
There’s a broad range of knife enthusiasts represented here, and all of them are nice people, but like Shawn mentioned, it was the perception that this forum had a higher representation of real world experience that made me settle here. And for the last four years or so, this has been the only knife/edc related forum/site/group I’ve interacted with.
It’s also why I digest more content from your channel than most other knife-tubers.
By some weird coincidence the YT algorithm momentarily worked and suggested your channel to me, way back in the early beginnings. It was instantly relatable, and I’ve been watching ever since.
Great to have you here.

Hello and welcome Erica,
I’ve been watching your YouTube content for a while now and always found your honest “hands on” videos to be a breath of fresh air. Long may they last.
Best regards,
