I think there's a place for strategic, well planned, predictable and smoothly phased in tariffs to help set the home team up for success, and secure domestic manufacturing of critical supplies. I would endorse such tariffs for the US, Norway and any other country.
What I have yet to see is the strategic, well planned, predictable and smoothly phased in part.
....
After looking into it a bit it is also not entirely clear to me why these tariffs are labeled "reciprocal".. as far as I can see this is not really the case.
(Not a political, but just a mathematical statement/question and that by a layman!)

Perhaps the term "reciprical" is just not meant too strictly.
Top three going by pocket-time (update April 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10), Chaparral SE (CTS XHP)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Endela SE (K390)

It's just typical political doublespeak. The tariff on each country is calculated purely from the trade deficit and exports to the US, so are completely divorced from tariffs and other regulatory actions each country is implementing against the US. The formula is also based on an incorrect assumption that the elasticity of import demand with respect to import prices and the elasticity of import prices with respect to tariffs cancel each other out. But they don't, which essentially makes the tariffs 4 times larger than they should be. Amateur hour.

These tariffs are meant as a tool to get other nations to the negotiating table. America has been getting the short end of the stick for too long. It's about time somebody does something to bring jobs back home.

I guess we'll see how successful that will be, so no need to fight over it here. See you soon.

Regarding QC outside of the US; we've tried this 3 times in the past. It is not a simple undertaking. It was very time consuming and expensive each time. In each case, the quality suffered. Naturally, we would like to make it easier and less expensive for our customers to be able to obtain our products. Perhaps one day n the future, we will find effective ways to do this.

Thank you for the history lesson. Almost 6 years in and I'm still just a newb around here :)
I understand very well why it makes sense to have QC in Golden, and I know first hand the level and consistency of quality this has brought us as customers. It would be my preferred way going forward as well, but maybe not at any price.. Interesting times ahead, for sure.

Hi Aicolainen,

6 years in and still learning? I would guess that it is mostly because many of our customers (End Line Users) have interest not only in our knives, but also in our company history and practices? We try to be a "model" for others, so I willl often share the "why" of decisions with the group here. Hopefully these explanations help with the depth of any given model or business practice?

Here, we are all students and we are all teachers and this sharing of knowledge and opinion adds depth, in my opinion to the group.

So, watching markets tank worldwide this Sunday night, and the US futures market indicating that tomorrow may be one of the worst days ever on Wall Street, I'm thinking...

Buy your Delicas now...

Seriously, I'm thinking of buying a few Delicas, Tenacious LWs, and some Astutes and putting them in a box to have as gifts over the next couple of years.

A big part of why I support Spyderco is as an End Line User I don’t feel like just another customer, I feel more connected to the company. Might sound silly but I truly feel Spyderco values its customers and their feed back.

As European I can tell that you may be unpleasantly surprised. Your guy made plenty allies of USA into enemies or just very disappointed and disgusted people, to the point that there is risk to replace everything we can with things made in EU or elsewhere but USA.

:eye-roll

One thing "The Guy" running the USA should do is withdraw all troops from EU, UK and Scandinavian countries and get out of NATO, saving the US taxpayers tens of billions every year.

Sal even if the leaders of all the nations in the world had only 10% of your wisdom, patience and common sense. We would all live in a way better world then we live in now.
But atleast this small forum is one of the last candles standing in these dark times.
Thank you so much!
