that's becauee it is small! shorter than an endura blade length wise.

Yep, although I recently stumbled across a "reblade" custom PM2 where they have boosted the edge length to comparable to a Millie.

Re: Military 2 Discussion (Merged)
that's pretty cool. I wish all my spydies had edges back to the handle like that.

Interesting... I see a bleeding index finger with that choil situation...mark greenman wrote: ↑Thu Mar 27, 2025 4:50 pm...I recently stumbled across a "reblade" custom PM2 where they have boosted the edge length to comparable to a Millie.

Re: Military 2 Discussion (Merged)
Been carrying my Millie 2 for a few days now, and I've started to appreciate it more than I did in the beginning.
One thing I'm growing to appreciate is the slimmed down scales when compared to the Millie 1. It's subtle, but especially noticeable when holding in a pinch grip right at the top of the handle near the choil. The slimmer scale design also makes it a little easier when sliding back into the pocket, particularly when coupled with the smaller, shorter clip that sits slightly higher on the scales and thus slightly lower in the pocket.
On the other hand, the more pronounced choil pushes my forefinger just a bit lower in a hammer grip, whereas with the Millie 1 I can choke up a little more and get closer to the edge without actually moving my forefinger into the choil area.
So prefer Millie 2 for pinch grip when doing something like opening packages. Prefer Millie 1 for hammer grip when doing more hard cutting like carving wood or breaking boxes down.

Very tight action out of the box and lots of lock stick but centered blade. I have 4 of these Military 2's now and all but one has pretty bad lock stick. I have mixed feelings about it, it is annoying but logic also tells me it's potentially a tighter and more secure lock up so I try to embrace it.
The tight pivot was partly because the screw was just too tight. I took it apart and greased the pivot and tried to dial it in.
The bevel is just a tiny bit wavy towards the tip on the front side, but the back is perfect. I'll be reprofiling it regardless.
And for the sake of science I'm going to try to wear/wear/repeat this same pair of work pants for a while and see how it wears on the pocket.

These are Men's DuluthFlex Fire Hose Ultimate Relaxed Fit Cargo's. They're not the same heavy fire hose fabric as their standard pants, they're thinner and stretchy, thicker than Dickies, about the same as typical Carhartt work pants.

How's the draw compared to a stock g10 millie?
Re: Military 2 Discussion (Merged)
I don't get how it's any rougher than regular G10. It feels like fabric to me, if that makes sense. It's textured but kind of soft feeling. It's not as aggressive as peel ply carbon fiber. I think if that center rib wasn't there for the clip to land on it would be worse. It's not like FRN bi-directional texture where there are sharp corners angled against the direction of pulling the knife out, it's not like it's catching and snagged at it goes in and out of the pocket.
This one also cuts the monster box better than the 15V did, but still not as well as my Chief or Bodacious.

That is the closest to the plunge I've seen any Spyderco from Golden in recent years. Wonder if that's a one-off. It does look like there's the slightest bit of recurve about an inch forward from the plunge though.Evil D wrote: ↑Fri Mar 28, 2025 10:56 am

Both my Military 15v's had lock stick. One was so bad it was slapping upon disengagement. I backed out every screw in the knife, re-loctited them all, and fine tuned. It's almost gone now and seems to be improving with use.
Re: Military 2 Discussion (Merged)
My dlc (s30v) also had lock stick and s90v didn't. That included, all comp locks with stick have been quickly remedied following this guy's video for me (scroll to around 55 seconds)

It does have a wee bit of a curve to the edge. I'll hone this out when I reprofile it.

I wonder if the grip enhancement only appears when your hands are wet?
It certainly looks cool.

It's more grippy than the Caribbean since those scales were smooth on top and these are machined from peel ply G10.
We're going on vacation and will be playing in the ocean next week, I plan on taking it with me. Hopefully I don't lose it like I did my Tasman Salt.

This may disqualify my clip/pocket shred test but I couldn't help myself.

It's even easier to draw with the Lynch clip, which may suggest that it clips less tightly but I love it.
My only complaint is that it actually has a very late lock up, so late that I probably would have returned it had I noticed before I started messing with it but now I can't in good conscience return it. I guess I'll see how far it decides to travel, hopefully not much further. I measures the gap between the lock bar and liner from the top with the blade open and it's an entire millimeter wider than my 15V, so the lock up is that much further over. But, I've said myself that a later lock up is also probably a more secure lock up so as long as it doesn't bottom out against the opposite scale I'll live with it.
I've been thinking about the milling pattern, I think they should try to do more of a circle pattern like the FRN Native has, not the whole bi-directional texture pattern just lines like this already has been in more of a circular pattern. Maybe even go all in and mill out a Spyder in the center.

I noticed that "compression made easy" device on the locktab: How do you like it??
I am really interested in that feature, since it potentially could remedy two of the three slight issues I have with the comp.lock: It could improve both ergos (cover the coutout) and operation with gloves / in "harsh" conditions...
And/but on the flip side: Any signs that the lock could disengage a bit when gripping the knife really hard with this feature?
And any worries that it could come loose (which would not be a real issue anyway, cause then you´d just have a "regular", fully functional comp.lock again...)?
Top three going by pocket-time (update April 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10), Chaparral SE (CTS XHP)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Endela SE (K390)

I really don't feel that the lock is going to disengage. It still takes a deliberate amount of force to press the lock in, and the amount of travel it takes to unlock it doesn't change.
These tabs come in different sizes, I've had a couple people make them for me and one guy makes two different widths depending on how you want it. The wider one he makes will sit flush with the scale while the blade is closed, which means it'll stick out past the scale when the blade is open. I didn't care for this size so I've stuck with the more narrow tabs.
The first thing I did when I put one on my Bodacious was squeeze it as hard as I could in several different grips to see if I could move the lock but I couldn't. It's also important to consider, if you manage to push the lock in during use, won't you most likely be cutting something, which puts pressure into the edge and towards opening the blade and not closing it?
As for coming off, I have taken one off my 15V Military 2 and swapped the black one with a brown one and it took a good bit of effort to break it off. The ones I'm currently using have a lip that goes around the lock tab so you have more than just one surface that has glue/contact. I would say they're not permanent but I'm not worried about breaking them off accidentally either.

The other benefit is reducing hot spots on my palm, which it doesn't completely eliminate but it helps. I do find that it feels much more comfortable on my finger to unlock.

That tab is a lefty dream . I gifted a CME to a friend of mine who is also a lefty and had limited success. This design looks very effective . Re: Military 2 Discussion (Merged)
It is getting better and is practically gone on my 15V, it's a lot more obvious now with another new Military 2 in my hand to compare it to. But I've also noticed that if I take the knife apart it starts the cycle over, even if I don't change the position of the stop pin, which has been a suggested method of reducing lock stick in the past.
By comparison I've had my Bodacious apart probably 20 times and it has NO lock stick, it's been silky smooth since day one and taking it apart doesn't change it.

Re: Military 2 Discussion (Merged)
Any tips on fixing this?

Tried loosening all the screws and re-tightening them in different orders. No luck.
Tried fiddling with the pivot. No luck.
Tried jamming a folded up piece of paper between the blade and handle to force it to the opposite side. Left it that way for a week. Immediately went right back to where it is when I pulled the paper out.
One of these days I'm going to carry this knife, lol. Waited for the micarta scales to show up, then wanted to dye them, then wanted to dye them a second time for a richer color, then had to cycle the action until it stopped feeling sluggish and bad.
Now I have one last thing to fix and I'll finally start carrying it. Then I can see how long the factory edge lasts, and then put my own edge on.
