The serrated Chaparral is pretty cool

Hi Marius,

The serrations on the Chaparral are proper. One of our Engineers, Morton, sent proper 3D drawings and dimensions to the maker and the maker followed them exactly. I am thrilled with the results. I've been trying to get rid of pointy Spikey serrations from the makers for years. I think maybe we may be getting there. That's why I've always said to sharpen SE on the Sharpmaker to round off the points.

I am impressed with how well this blade cuts. I think it's like Z-Cuts if not better. No steak is too tough or too well done. It could probably cut a shoe in half, like seen on TV :-)

Cannot believe what kind of knife is this Chap Chappie Chaparral!!!!

When first take it out from the little box and handled, I have to say it was the most beautiful sensation I've ever had with a knife (I mean all the knives I loved and love actually, Spydies or not): It's complex to describe but it feels indestructible, so compact but at the same time BIG (I can just handle it fully with my hands, without the choil).

...and then the cutting: no way it's real!!!

I've taken the usual paper sheet and I've done very very fast multiple cuts: it shredded the poor sheet as I've never seen.

So..in a few words this is an incredible knife, really, you have to try. I loughed like a child with a toy as never I've done before for a knife.

P.S.: I think I will buy a second one for backup 'cos this will become my EDC

I might be wrong but the blade( the cutting edge ) of the SE Chapie looks roughly 2mm shorter than the PE variant. I hope I am wrong …

Even when they are closed you can see that the SE blade is 2mm shorter. I am so disappointed… I wish it was the other way around.

Well, comparing the blade of my SE Chap directly to the PE blade, they seem to be pretty much exactly of the same length... (see first pic below).

When the knives are closed (second pic), the PE blade looks -perhaps - just the tiniest bit longer, but not at all 2mm... (PE above, SE below)

So I am not sure what is going on with the blade of your SE Chap, but I fully understand that you don´t like it being shorter!

I shall measure them tomorrow(precisely) but I have a wild guess,(just looking of the pictures in closed position you posted) that my PE blade is longer than yours. When closed, my PE blade goes all the way and the tip almost touches the but.

My SE is approximately 0.02” (0.5mm) shorter than my PE. Note that the curve of the blade is slightly different so you really need to be careful how you compare.

In any case, it’s what you do with it.

Not necessarily about the SE version, but I just had to say that I took the pocket clip off my new PE Chaparral LW, and it really feels so much better. It's so light and thin that I don't think it really bothers me to carry it loose in a pocket, either.

Believe me, the blades on both of my Chaps ARE actually as handle filling as possible, so the blade on your PE Chap technically pretty much can´t be longer... I know, the magnification of my pic makes it look as if there was a noticeable gap, but if the blades were any longer the tips would hit the metal backspacer....

Also consider: The whole Chap handle is only 6mm wide, so in relation to that the (perceived) "gap" in the pic is really short. In fact I never had any Spydie blade that makes that much and that complete use of the space inside the handle.

Here is another pic, Chap compared to Endura (the Endura has a pretty handle filling blade already, but the Chap really uses all of the space and almost hits the backspacer)

That´s weird... just measured mine, both definitely have the same edge length (plunge grind to tip) of 60 mm..

What is true in my SE though too: The serrations do stop a bit before the plunge grind indeed (though on my example a bit less than 1mm), while the PE blade is fully sharpened back to the plunge grind.

What could (should - ?) be the case though: My PE Chap blade originally probably was a tad longer, since now it has been sharpened already several times (while my SE Chap is still very new).
