You know an outdoor shot is the best, but here in the winter everything is dead, and ugly Dan. It's really hard to live here through some of our winters.

Never rains anymore here so when the wind blows we have these sand storms that are awful, you just have to really bare down to exist here in the winter.

So taking these really neat outdoor shots come hard to find unless you like lots of dirt lol. I will work on getting somewhere there is a few things to see, especially since my phone did get some much needed software up grade for the camera, it's still not great but it is much improved.

I agree! Get outside! Healthier, for you and the knives!

Ugly or beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I for one, love dirt. Outdoor pics are always more enjoyable to look at, regardless of season, and more enjoyable for us to look at than a work mat, especially in high contrast red...

Also, often, harsh settings or landscapes do create a beautiful setting for stunning photography.

You may be stuck in a "grass is always greener on the other side outlook". You have to think about what many of us are actually grinding to live through in an actual WINTER frozen environment with limited daylight, etc.
Trees just without their leaves and some dust in the wind doesn't sound so bad to some of us.

OK, I get it lol. You guys are right I know. My red silicone rubber mat does leave little to be desired lol. Heck that is why I got the cold saw cut slice of stainless 316L to see if it would make a better platform to shoot these from.

Heck yesterday I even sanded the saw marks from it and did a light polish to see if that was better. I like metal stuff anyway. It's still just so so at best, but I do like the slice of stainless, considering it was loved off a stick that was just short of 20' lol.

Here is my favorite Big Cedar tree right off the edge of the driveway. This tree is really something for our part of the world. It's about 30-35 feet tall, they just don't get much bigger than this here, and this one has had lots of help getting where and how it is.

I do like Cedar, if I have to make something from wood Cedar and Maple are some of my favorite. Just finished a Birdseye maple stock for a 22 lr I made from old parts, all I bought was an unfinished barrel which I profiled and then put all this together.

The rifle shoots exceptionally well after the bring in I did but this thing looks even better, if I say so myself. I don't hunt anymore and haven't in years, but I do love to shoot. Anyway, here is a pic of the Smock and the new Endura4 in the Cedar

Just saw this ! Hurray, great job . In Illinois there was a tradition where two cedar tree were planted on each side of a house on the prairies for newly weds . If later in life if one or both passed the trees would be cut down to make the coffin . I still see pairs of cedars where at one time where an old house stood but gone for more field use farming. Tree is nice I can see some nice photo opportunities. Dan

I took one of my Manix2XL 's today and sanded a little of the peel ply texture from under the pocket clip. While I like the feel it gives my paw to grip and hang on, it's simply shredding the lip of my pocket.

So marked the black G10, with you guessed it, a black sharpie lol. It works, go ahead and laugh it up lol. I marked dead center of the pinch point where the clip mounts.

Then removed the clip and took a small die grinder with a drum sander attached and just knocked the texture off in the area. It's going to be much better on the pocket, still no danger if the knife slipping out, and I think for all purposes this is a love story put to bed.

I had to do this with the G10 scales I got for my
Police4's, those scales have a really aggressive pattern and it was easy to pull the knife from the pocket, but not so, going into.

So, when I noticed the peel ply texture of the G10 on my Manix2XL chewing the pocket, I knew I needed to address this the same way.

You just need a little runway from the pinch point of the clip and move out in front of the clip 1/2". Least that is what I am doing. Leaving from the pinch point back under the clip as is. You smooth off a short 1/2" runway right in front of the clip.

Mine works great. Here is a few pix of the beginning with the two black marks, you do have to look close to see, but they are there, through the finish. Have a looksee.

I took my Smock all apart and flame colored some of the smaller components, screws, threaded bosses the blade release button, or what I like to refer to it as the blade clutch lol.

Nevertheless there all flame colored. I wanted to hone out the finger flipping tab more after I cut a groove on each side of it. I was not sure when I first chewed these two grooves how I was going to like how they worked.

There freaking killer, so I wanted to hone this area back smooth and clean, around these grooves. I just thought I would flame all these small components and the blade clutch button while it was apart.

I will give this time to grow on me, if I don't care for it, I will rag wheel buff with compound back to a shine. Here is a looksee

Here is a Manix 2XL that I just got these scales in. They fit perfectly, feel really awesome in the paw. They appear tan to me here in 5000 Kelvin LEDs and outside in the Brite sunlight, I was wanting OD Green lol.

Should be happy they fit and feel good lol. Ebay dealer, I have had issues with before lol. Worse case here I just don't like the color and these scales get to swim in the Dye Rite bath lol.

In the pix I shot of these they do look a little green, they just look Tan in person. So I going to give these a smoke test, see if they grow on me lol. Here is a looksee.

Edit: The top pic is a Police4 with green G10 and these new scales on the Manix 2XL, they are close looking at the pic. These G10 scales on the Police4 are green in person.

These scales on the Manix 2XL will have to grow on me, or they will get the bath in the Dye Rite... lol

Just got these FatCarbon scales from France in this morning. These scales are really something special. Going to be putting them on my Manix2 with the S110V steel.

My pix are not going to capture these as they look and feel in the paw. These scales are about 1mm thicker and the edges are well rounded. They have like a fine satin feel to the finish on them.

Nickabrack on etsy. Com is who makes these, simply stunning in person, my pix are going to fail miserably.
Been waiting on these for a while. Well worth the wait.

We have one heck of a sand storm going on outside right now too, so trying the natural sunshine to help capture these is a hard pass lol.

Deep carry pocket clip and canvas micarta scales from Flytanium. I've had these lotus model scales from Flytanium in micarta, titanium and G10, had them on PM2's, Para 3's and a Bugout. The contouring make them very nice in the hand.

Apollo,

Your FatCarbon looks great... I have a set of those scales for a Manix 2 that I have had for about a month now. His work is really nice.

Mine wasn't the color I thought it was when I bought it.
So, wasn't thrilled about that but the scales are still stunning. Nothing like yours though.

Thx Jeb and indeed his work is amazing. His thicker material makes the Manix way more comfortable. Also nice that he gives a free set of longer clip screws other makers do not do that.
Sorry to hear your scales where not the color you tought they would be. But that is the problem with such materials i fear. Some pieces have more color then others some have other shades of the color. There really not consistent from the factory regretably.

That second from the bottom right-side, that looks like a great Flipper and the scales on it are awesome. You have quite the collection of some very special knives there...

What I call a very serious bug bite lol
