The Endura

#1

Post by Drumlooper »

Hi there,
I think that the Endura does not get the attention it deserves on many forums and platforms like YouTube. For me the E ist the epitome of a Spyderco knife in function and form and it should be in every collection. No fancy steels but big and strong. A real workhorse. Despite its impressive size, it’s a perfect EDC. It fits well in any pocket courtesy of its flat and slim profile. I myself prefer it with a combination edge.
I’m interested in your take on this.
Regards.

I really like the Endura4 and have more than just a few around here. To me, for the money and what you get the Sprint run of the Endura4 is a great buy.

Now, I do either rite-dye the scales black or just replace them all together, but either way it's a heck of a knife when I finish its transformation lol...

Edit: One of my last Endura4 projects where I put Carbon Fiber scales on and a small finger ring to properly pull the knife from my front right pocket, or break glass or Crack something open lol...

Can’t really top the Endura and Delica imo.

Lots of knives here and cycle through pretty regularly, but when it comes down to it, they can’t be beat.

Comes down to what size knife you need atm.

There is something about the Endura and Delica that keeps me coming back. This one was one of my most carried knives last summer:

Normally I stay away from combo edges but for the long blade of the Endura, it’s just perfect. Fine cutting capabilities on the tip and a lot of cutting power close to the fist.

Ain't nothin' there that I can argue with.
I can't even think of something bad about the Endura.
It's a great hunk of steel and plastic.

I am not a huge fan of the handle ergonomics, I modified mine to fit my hand better, but other than that, it is pretty much perfect for me. It is currently my first and only Spydie.

Endura is a classic mainstay of the lineup, key to the history of Spyderco.

I think it doesn't get much regular limelight simply because it almost goes without saying to most owners that it's a legend which we all have and already carry.

It packs a lot of usable edge length into a very slender folder. In pocket it disappears slimmer than a PM2, but more edge.

The Endura (along with the Delica) is a staple in the knife world. It's been around in various iterations for more than 30 years. It will probably always be a mainstay of the Spyderco lineup. It's one of my all-time favorites.

As far as it not getting a lot of talk about it on various forums, I'm certain that's because it isn't "the latest-greatest knife model in town." Most online knife discussions are usually driven by what's new and exciting. The Endura can probably be compared to the Honda Accord, or the Toyota Camry. Not seen as the cool New Kid in Town, or the fanciest knife, but proven to be hardworking and reliable.

Welcome to the forum, Tom!

To me the Endura has been and probably will forever be the best folder of al brands and all times.
Just perfect, great ergos, good, not too small - not too big size, a lot of cutting edge, slim carry, good backlock, ricasso better than most choils to choke up on, and with the Pac Salt variant an amazing superlight option.

One of its best iterations is the ffg comboedge thin line Endura, and my favorite PE variant the HAP40 one.

What I have been wishing for for a long time now: VG10, regular blade shape, SE and ffg.... (I always prefer SE over PE when I can have it in a Spyderco folder)

Image
Top three going by pocket-time (update October 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endela SE (VG10), Manix 2 LW (REX45)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1)

I love the Endura, once I shave off that first finger bump behind the guard. I prefer it to other large knives as it slips easily into my pocket and I prefer the lock.

Hard to see Spyderco still around without the Endura and all that it inspired.

No knife that big should be that forgettable in your pocket. It's a genius design. It's a top 5 knife but it's also the right choice if you could only have 1 model of knife for the rest of your life.

I'll be the odd man out and admit that I like the Delica more than the Endura because it fits my hand and pocket better. And I prefer the Endela to either of them.

The Endura has been a hidden gem for me. I have several and recently can’t get away from the K390 wharnie. The SE K390 Endura has been the best SE knife I’ve ever used. The size and handle, specifically the bump to catch my middle finger, just work so well for me.

The Delica is my favorite 3" blade knife. I don't have the Endela, but it is practical and I love the blade design. Maybe the reason some of us older folks in the US like the Endura is because we grew up toting the Buck 110 that also had a 3 3/4 inch blade.

The Endura was my first Spyderco and I still love it. The Pacific Salt was an improvement for me and the S2XL is possibly even better.

Love the Endura!
Have the following steels:
VG10, SG2, Damascus, 20CV, S30V, PD1, K390, ZDP-189 and H1 & LC200N if you count Pacific Salts.
Could easily live with an Endura as sole knife model.
