Taiwanese JANISONG at DLT

#1

Post by Rinzler »

I’m not sure what changed compared to spydercos past refusal to import the janisong unless the janisong knives are now USA made or spyderco is taking a consent decree and regulatory gamble with DOJ under the friendlier Trump administration, but DLT has these listed now as “coming soon.”

I’ve had two Janisongs for a while now and they’re awesome knives. If this is legit, definitely pick one up.

Listed as out of stock, so the best way to find out is to shoot an email to DLT if this is true or not.

I had two Janisongs like @Rinzler, and they are extremely fun and unique knives. I think Mike Janich is a genius for this one of a kind design, and it's a shame that most American Spydie fans haven't been able to experience this amazing blade.

The prospect of these being easier to obtain for US customers is very enticing! I'll definitely be paying attention to see what comes of this.

This is exciting! I made a thread in the the restricted forum. It's also for pre-order at BladeHQ.

I spoke with DLT prior to starting the thread. They confirmed it is coming and confirmed the origin is Taiwan.

Oh wow, then all I can say is - FINALLY. I got mine many years ago, and it was well worth the import cost from Europe that I paid to acquire them. I'm excited for the others who have not had the chance to experience flipping the Janisong.

Hi GeeDub,

Welcome to our forum.

Yes, it's real. The Janisong has a long Talkin' Story.. Maybe sometime in the future, Mike and I will run it down.

With knife laws loosening up in a lot of places it makes sense to make it available here, they'll see an instant sales increase even if it's a small one. I'll probably get one.

i've wanted one of these for a long time. i always thought it was silly that we couldn't have them in the supposed freest place on earth, even though balisongs and autos are super easy to find and purchase. i'll definitely welcome one to my collection if i'm able.

Dear @sal , I think the Janisong design is one of the most unique and special knives that the company has ever manufactured. I just cannot imagine how Mike Janich ever designed it, he's well known for the Ronin/Jimbo series but I think he's just under appreciated for the Janisong. I don't even dare open mine because of the complexity of the design. Just a very fun knife all throughout, yet can definitely be used for self-defense settings.

I can just imagine the use case scenario where flipping the Janisong open alone would cause any threat/attacker to pause and reconsider.

These are not legal in my home state, which is too bad because this is the first butterfly knife I've ever seen that I'd probably carry. The mechanics are captivating, and the symmetrical, mature design is a total win in my book.

That's the best part! It's so ingeniously designed, the "cages" prevent any accidental cuts to the fingers, plus it's only sharpened on one side, you'd sooner stab yourself accidentally than cut your hands.

Sharing this old video of unboxing my Janisong, imported from Europe, more than 5 years ago.

The Janisong is so intuitive, despite this being my very first time to handle the knife (you can see that the knife is sealed in its plastic bag), I immediately knew how to operate it.

I wish all my forum brethren the same joy I had in unboxing this great knife.
