I'll participate in the dogpile-- get a Sharp Maker! The deal at National is great-- so much that I recently bought a second one even though my 6 year old one is going strong.
The Sharp Maker is a great compliment to other systems and perfect for serations, recurves, hawkbills and other atypical blade and edge shapes.
I primarily use the brown ceramic and the(not included) CBN rods. I sometimes use the white rods on wood carving knives and tools and some kitchen.knives.
What is the best way to sharpen a Spyderco blade ?

Re: What is the best way to sharpen a Spyderco blade ?
It depends on the type of serration. If there are only wider rounded grooves between the points, a round rod may work. But, if you look at the Spyderco serrations, the wider rounded grooves alternate with other very narrow grooves. The rounded rods do not help much there. The edges of the triangle rods fit much better on the narrow grooves while also working on the wider rounded grooves.
Remember, too, that sharpening a serrated knife is not quite the same as sharpening chainsaw. On the chainsaw, there is only the one groove on its own each time and you're really sharpening the point and not just the groove. On a knife, that groove is in relation to the adjacent points and is not sharpened in isolation the same way as on a chainsaw. If a point gets sharp on a serrated knife, it becomes more snaggy when cutting. You can sometimes see that difference in performance with different serrations even on new blades.

I didn’t know we where sharpening a serrated, then a sharp maker or a spyderco ceramic triangleS-3 ranch wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 3:51 pmWith out a doubt this system is the best for sharpening a spyderco IMO
I have a Ken onion and it definitely needs to be on a low RPM or you will burn the blade so the angle pro is superior imo
All my spyderco’s have magnificent steel and once sharpened only need to be sharpened once in a blue moon, maintenance on a crock or strop is basically all I ever need.
And I as a rancher and hunting guide use my knives hard so maintenance is fairly often and quick
To keep them scary sharp @ 600 & 800 grit, then ceramic and leather for polishing
