 Mini Bodacious???

So a Mini Bodacious. Take the Native 5 remove the finger choil, extend the blade edge and add a compression lock. Basically how they transformed the Shaman into the Bodacious.
(Sage 5 people, I do not mean a Native 5 with a compression lock.)

Re: Mini Bodacious???
You don't mean a compression lock Native 5 but that is exactly what it would require. Either that or a significant redesign to fit the new blade in the handle with a backlock mechanism.

Let's enjoy the Bodacious as it is for a bit! It's funny, I never really caught on before until a couple years ago when someone said something along the lines of "not every knife needs a mini/lil or xl version of said knife" Now I notice the requests all the time haha. The Bodacious is such a new model, it seems way too early to jump into variations.

Isn't that a Leafjumper with a compression lock and minus the thumb ramp? The Lil' Temperance LW also comes to mind.

Knife enthusiasts are seriously a bunch of Goldilocks'. Whether it's the steel or size or lock or a dozen other details, just can't please everyone all the time.

practically a Lil Temperance 3

Love the idea. Seems fitting to have another family of knives, seeing that we already have the choiled Native family, from the Lil Native all the way to the Shaman. This could be the choilless version of that knife family. I'll be the black sheep here, but count me in.

I’d like to see a sprint run (or two) and maybe a dealer exclusive (or two) first but I wouldn’t mind seeing them expand the Bodacious family. It’s been a pocket hog since I got mine.

Welcome to the forum!
I don´t have a Bodacious, but from all I can see it has some aspects I really like (and some a bit less, since I am just a backlock, lighter weight, FRN kind of guy if I can have that).
It also also should lend itself to a smaller version imo:
- Especially the handle shape should still work in "small", cause it maximizes grip area on the available length (no pinky hook or the like)
- I also am of the opinion that in the particular Native 5 length/size range a choil makes the least sense (compared to smaller or bigger where it definitely does or can), at least for my hand size.
So a Native 5- ish Spydie, but with a) a handle that uses all its available length for one good grip and b) an edge all the way to the handle sounds like a good idea.
Me being me I´d prefer a backlock though, but along the lines of what Nick/Mushroom has pointed out already, most likely that tall blade would fit into that handle together with a backlock.
Top three going by pocket-time (update October 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endela SE (VG10), Manix 2 LW (REX45)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1)
						- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endela SE (VG10), Manix 2 LW (REX45)

Re: Mini Bodacious???
I am curious to see what a lil temperance looks like next to a Bodacious. The Bodacious is a really efficient design. It carries like a pm2 but has an edge like a chief.

The LT3 LW handle and blade are considerably thicker than the Bodacious. I have a LeafJumper, an LT3 LW and a Bodacious.
They are all great designs, sharing some characteristics. I'm more of a mid lockback guy than a Comp Lock guy, but the CL seems to allow a shorter overall knife with the same blade and edge length than a comparable mid lockback would have.
Depending what you are prioritizing, each may have an advantage.
For me the 3 inch blade is more useful for much of what I do, so I have been loving the K390 Leaf Jumper to carry for work as a carpenter.

Re: Mini Bodacious???
I appreciate it. The lil temperance is pretty close to a mini bodacious lightweight

Sold my LT3 because it felt fat and awkward compared to LeafJumper. It also had poor action even being a compression lock so maybe I had a dud but its par for the course with every seki I've owned without weeks of opening and closing. Mini bodacious could absolutely work and would absolutely work. It would fall into the size category that Drift and Rosie (neither having forward choils) is in and that is a near perfect EDC size. A N5 compression would be a great runner up too.Enactive wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 7:21 pmThe LT3 LW handle and blade are considerably thicker than the Bodacious. I don't have the LT3 LW but I have had 2 copies of the original Lil' Temperance 3 in G-10. While I like the knife for what it is, it's a common problem with almost all G-10 models that the comp lock action is underwhelming. I don't know if the same issue persists with the LW version. I agree with you here on all accounts, it would compete with the Drift and Rosie (I don't get the hype on that knife and the hyperinflated prices it goes on the market).
-----------------------------------------
The Bodacious and the LT3 aren't similar and comparable at all, except maybe for the leaf shaped blade and the compression lock. No, the LT3 isn't an "almost" mini-Bodacious. There's a thumb ramp in the blade and the handle is very awkwardly shaped, with the palm swell nearly at the bottom of the handle, compared to the Bodacious/Shaman's nearly neutral handle with the palm swell nearly at the center. The LT3 was marketed as a self-defense knife, while the Bodacious (and possible mini version) wasn't marketed to do that (though it could do that too, as any other knife or bladed instrument).
There is definitely an opportunity here for a mini-Bodacious and I hope Golden management is listening.

						Re: Mini Bodacious???
I finally sprung for a K390 Lil' Temperance in September after not being completely satisfied with the grip security, ergonomics, and handle girth of the Manix, PM2, and Native 5 models I had been carrying for the previous 5+ years. It has been my only primary since that time, and as the months go on I love and appreciate it more. The higher price is offset by its versatility. I no longer feel that I need to carry two different knives to handle my daily tasks. They can all be accomplished very well with just the LT3. It singularly does the work of a balanced pair of knives, and costs less than such a pair would. This comes with the additional benefit of not needing to spend time/mental energy deciding which knife to use for the task at hand.
I do not find the LT3 handle to be awkwardly shaped. I think that it is a fantastic design, and I can effectively hold it and cut with it in very useful ways that are awkward or painful with a Manix or PM2.
Upon receipt the action was underwhelming, but I was willing to put up with that for the amazing design and ergonomics once the knife was open. The action just took forever to break in (maybe it's a K390 thing?), but now it's getting to be pretty sweet.
I agree, the hump/no hump difference is enough to make the Lil' Temp not qualify as a mini Bodacious.

I see a lot of similarities but I also think the differences vs the Bodacious are pretty defining characteristics like the lack of a thumb ramp and less handle hook/guard at the ends.
I've been asking for a slightly larger Bodacious, and if they turned around and made a Lil Temp XXL instead, I don't think that would scratch the itch even if I did like it.
