New CQI Delica 4 Stainless Models?

#1

Post by Blacksprucy »

I was in the market for a Delica 4 Stainless (Model C11) and was doing some internet searches on them.

However on the Spyderco website, it is now showing pics of the model with a screwed handle construction which is different than how they have been making that model for decades.

https://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details/C11/Delica-reg-4-Stainless/210

This got me interested and I found the following video posted a month ago showing the same in a serrated version:

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/DbYyMLO_nV4

Is this some new CQI version that was quietly released?

Yep. The Delica and Endura both went to screwed construction right after the Police Model.

Hi Blacksprucy,

Yes, we are re-tooling the stainless models in the Endura family for screw construction. We are just doing it one model at a time. I believe the Police was first.

Sal, on a different note: Any chance that the SS Endura family will ever go back from the current sabre grind to that great hollow (sabre) grind?
Top three going by pocket-time (update April 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10), Chaparral SE (CTS XHP)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Endela SE (K390)

Actually, we're working on a project which was originally called the "High Performance Delica". The project has been running behind because of other models in demand. The plan s to have two Delica's, both ground for higher performance cutting. One is to be a high hollow and the other is to be a Hamaguri (appleseed), thin edges, to test the concept of the designs and to see if there is any interest in a "High Performance" line?

I can’t wait. Super interested to see what this Appleseed looks like.

It would be cool if these models came with a sharpening guide (like which angle and grit) are recommended for optimal performance

Hi Hobbyist,

When we do projects like this, it's more like a Mule Team. We don't have the answers, We expect you to come up with the answers, we're providing the question and the piece to study. We're making you part of the R&D team. Then we also get expert opinions from the likes of Larrin and Shawn.

Thanks Sal, appreciate your reply!

But OF COURSE I knew already about that project and am really excited for it...;) - even more so since the Delica is still my favorite folder ever in that particular size range, I do love thin, acute grinds / blades, AND even happen to prefer the high performance Delica coming in VG10 (while some would have liked it in K390-ish steel viewtopic.php?p=1514226&sid=b5a792b1013 ... 0#p1514226) - win-win-win for me. :smlling-eyes

/ To my original question: When it comes to the stainless steel Endura family knives, I just prefer the hollow grind of the earlier versions to the true sabre grind of the current ones.

Thanks for the info.
Guess I will see which version of the Delica I get when it arrives:)

Some might have liked it better with a "super steel", but the goal is to determine the best grinds.

I'm interested in the Endela joining the "cool Seki knives" club and getting variations like the screw construction stainless handles and the factory Ti option, though I'd much prefer that the lanyard hole either stay in the same place as the FRN ones or go away completely. It seems kinda odd to use a clip with a lanyard hole in it when the lanyard hole is elsewhere on the knife.

Definitely interested in the high hollow grind. I had a custom knife years ago with a ridiculously thin high hollow grind and it was really something! I regret selling it. The Hamaguri I could do without, but that’s just me. I’d prefer a knife I can sharpen more easily.
Regardless, very cool project giving folks some high performance options!
Thank you, Sal!

In for a high hollow grind Delica. Would like to see it in a unique FRN, maybe a combo with black and another color like the thin red line series.

The project has been on hold for a while due to immediate production needs. I'l keep pushing for it. Patience is required.
