For the ten + years i was a trucker i used my PS Delica first gen and never felt the need or urge to get something else.
In one of the rigs there was a Mora fixed blade in the door compartment, but i rarely used it.

I'm in the HVAC industry - we in the trades do use knives and I love my Spydercos! They are on me every day! If the truckers (whom we still appreciate) are not receptive, us in the trades sure are! We love the work you are doing and something to the effect of a 'construction' knife could be awesome, although half the time it would probably be used 1/2 the time as a prybar/screwdriver haha. Definitely not in line with the 'slicey performance' Spyderco is known for, but perhaps an untapped customer base?

Maybe developing something like a 'reverse serrated' knife where the flats are the part that sticks out so you can still sharpen it on a flat stone, but you still get *some* benefit of an enhanced cutting performance from a ' serrated blade', which maybe gives you a little more leeway/overhead to make it thicker and tougher for cutting wires in dirt, or snapping zip ties and such.

For many, sharpening a serrated edge is daunting, and a reason why they may skip over the knife. So make the proud parts flat, and the serrations inward! Maybe a dumb idea, maybe not? I'd be interested to see how an edge like this could perform, and the enhanced cutting ability of even a dull serrated edge appeals to me as a field worker.

Veff Flat Top serrations have entered the chat! Like all good ideas someones beat you to it unfortunately. I don't think I can post the YouTube link since Sal has asked to keep things Spyderco and it's pretty much a CRKT thing, but you can see Tom Veff demonstrating them with a quick search.

I too thought they would be the greatest thing since scotch tape but for me I ended up not loving them. It was a case of the science was good but the math was bad. I found them to be incredibly snaggy on rope and straps to the point of nearly ineffective. The almost 90 degree corner where the serrations meet the "plain edge" flats hook anything fibrous.

Ahh, well, kind of one of those 100/1 things, in that 100 ideas are great, but 1 out of 100 of them either works out or makes sense. I do think it would unlock a cheat code of sorts to find a way to have the cutting prowess of serrations, but be able to sharpen on a flat stone.

I'll look up the Veff thing - thanks for the heads up!

That is the "Puzzlement". I believe that serrations will serve that market better than plain edges for a variety or reasons. I think the "trick" is to be finding the way to have the "Edge-u-cation" and the sharpening tool go with the knife and the video?

I've always appreciated the comfort of carry of longer knives. Police 3 serrated is a big workhorse of a knife that seems to disappear in the pocket. As mentioned, they spend a lot of time driving so it has to ride nice and be at the ready! I personally think the spyder edge is ideal.I like the way the lum tanto hides the blade and secures the grip but it needs a blade shape closer to the stretch2xl (which slaps btw). I would prefer a compression lock but I could see the use of a back lock being a bettter fit for closing with gloves. Most of the truck driver I know are farmers and all of them tend to be hard workers and users of knives. Spyderco makes a heck of a working knife and simply designing one and calling it The Trucker should be enough to fit the bill. Then you can have the BIG Trucker and the Little Trucker.

Sorry if this reads the wrong way, but this is actually a bit hilarious to me! A real reflection of how many humans unfortunately act behind a keyboard on the Internet in today's day and age.
Brush it off and move on! Probably not a true representation of the actual avg cross section of trucker population anyway.
