Hi, I love Petzl headlamps, HOWEVER, beware..

They have a very fast strobe effect which is not noticeable under normal function i.e. when it appears to be a continuous white light.

This can be extremely dangerous when working on moving parts, lathe, engines, wind generator etc as this will make the High speed moving object to be stationary!!!

I read you message a month ago and I've been thinking. That could be dangerous if I forget that fact and open the hood of a car to work on it.

What brand headlamp does not strobe? I think I'll buy 2 very good headlamps.

EDIT: I see that petzl headlamp's offer continuous or strobe lighting... I'll buy the petzls and be very careful.

Hi, yes the Petzls do have a strobe option, like most Headlamps/flashlights have these days.

I WAS NOT referring to that option.

Just to clarify, the continuous white light is NOT.

It strobes extremely quickly that the human eye (at least mine) appears solid, but any object moving quickly appears stationary!

Hi, it will probably not be a issue for you now, as you (and hopefully others) are aware of issue.

Personally, I put a small piece of Reflective tape on my fly wheel, fans and Wind Generator.
This will show up as a Almost continuous arc when spinning.
It also helps when using a Timing Light when checking on Top Dead Center.

We buy new cars with extended warranties these days. Had a 2019 Camry and now have a 2025 Camry. We drive around 5,000 miles a year max.

I used to hop up cars and motorcycles back in the 80's. It has been that long since I used a timing light, rejetted a carb, replaced floats in a carb, modified an engine... I keep my fingers and sanity these days by letting pros work on my cars. I took auto shop and airframe and engine/jet-engine shop classes in H.S. and street/road raced motorcycles at one time.

But you never know. I may buy a mint 1960's or 70's car to get away from all of the electronics, as long as I can get the parts.

After all these years I still love my Surefire flashlights. And I'm a firm believer in a flashlight that uses rechargeable batteries ( especially the 123a batteries). I know that Surefire is a really pricey unit but their dependability is second to none IMO.

But I really like it when Flashlight threads like this one pop up because the flashlight market changes so fast that it is nearly impossible to constantly stay on top of it. I'm hoping that maybe some of you all can tell me a good source for rechargeable batteries. Because it seems like it's hard to find good quality rechargeable batteries in the past two to three years.

I'm so glad companies are getting away from producing exclusively round flashlights. Flat body lights sit in the pocket so much better.

Both of my EDC lights are flat. On my keychain I keep a Nitecore TIP2 and in my pocket an EDC27.

Fenix PD32 and a no name usbc headlamp is my night time woods combo, and the Fenix also comes with me for security shifts. It throws better than any other light I own and is still pretty easy to pocket.

wanted something with the form factor of my edc27 and the raw throw and candelas of my fenix pd32 v2

turns out nitecore recently released exactly that.



merry christmas to me.

tested it out on a night hike tonight and it throws much further than the 27. the flood beam option is really nice, but it would have been cool to have a lower lumen mode of the flood for when I want a wide beam for extended periods.

Bit heavier and bulkier in the pocket but still easier to carry than any 18650 light i've owned.

Think I'll keep using the 27 as my work EDC since I have no need for the long range indoors, and the 29 will be my EDC outside of work.

Outside of the special flood light mode the beam is more focused and less floody than the 27. Makes it a better choice as a tactical companion to my pistol.

Haven't carried anything but the Nitecore EDC23 since it arrived. Fantastic functionally but Nitecore needs to work on their clips to allow deeper carry and better retention. This one has a habit of falling off my belt or out of my pocket.

I thought about ordering one of those for a lighter weight work light.

surprised you're having retention issues. the clips on mine are solid. guess shorter lights have a different weight distribution though.
