Most requested re-release?
Most requested re-release?
Hi, I'm more of a lurker on here, but I try to keep an eye on upcoming releases so I can do my research on the steel type and whatnot. It seems like the last few weeks/months there hasn't been a lot of traction on a new model release. Would the powers that be consider doing a re-release of a previous steel type? Maybe a poll can be taken? There are 7-8 previous steel releases I would LOVE an opportunity to get, but if there's an opportunity for even one, I'd be happy with that too. Anyway, maybe this is outside the scope of the whole mule business model works, but it's worth a shot :)

Re: Most requested re-release?
Hi, thanks for providing that. I wasn't aware there was a vote already going on. I see this is from 2022 though, so I guess my question is, is this something that's going to happen? I think it would be a great idea once a year (at the end of the year) to do a re-drop.

Re: Most requested re-release?
I would position the question differently, which may get more traction;
"Is there a mule release that had issues, but with current knowledge could be improved on and re-released as a 2.0 version?"
I recall a few models with issues like warping, or heat treatment being sub-par. No specific recent releases come to mind, but I do recall some chatter around these points historically.
Given the MT is all about the learning process, and sharing those learnings, maybe Spyderco could share some of their own learnings and give us a re-release on a model they learned from, so we can compare if that new knowledge provides a real-world practical benefit between the versions?
Just a thought...

Re: Most requested re-release?
Some Mules are a year or more in the making. Don’t think it’s as easy as your above suggesting.MrMayhem wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 10:16 amHi, thanks for providing that. Most over the last few years are sold out, but numbers of several lately have increased to there being a few steels still available. All of these steels that are left are still pretty good steels to try and as always a sharpened, heat treated blade ready to go at the price offered is an absolute bargin.

Re: Most requested re-release?
I would understand your point if we're strictly talking non productions steels. If you look at the link above that people are voting on (viewtopic.php?t=91876), the 4 highest vote totals are are current Spyderco production steels (Magnacut, Maxamet, K390, Cruwear). Obviously the mule blanks/molds are readily available, so from a logistical standpoint, it seems feasible. That being said, it doesn't seem like that idea is something in the roadmap, so it's probably more wishful thinking than anything else.standy99 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 1:03 pmSome Mules are a year or more in the making. Equal or less than?
I'd love a Calypso, but the steel would have to be >VG10.

Of course equal or *better* sorry about the typo :)Bolster wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 9:08 pmLarry_Mott wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 10:50 amFull size Calypso, steel irrelevant as long as it is =< VG10

My point was, i don't care if it is the bestest, most advanced steel ever made. As i have said numerous times before - i don't cut different stuff today as i did in 1985 with my Buck 110, and that knife never disappointed me.

Re: Most requested re-release?
I'm in the PNW and prefer a good balance of corrosion resistance and edge retention. Steels like 20CV and Magnacut are right up my alley.
I was referring to mules specifically
