What's your go-to carry when you can't decide?

#1

Post by gooeytek »

I usually pick a knife to carry depending on the day of the week to stick to a theme of sorts like Wharnie Wednesday, Framelock Friday, etc. This morning was one of those days where I couldn't decide, so I chose my Shamwari like often do. It's plain and clean-looking, no fob, not too big, not too small, works well in most situations, and doesn't feel out of place no matter the attire I'm in.

What are your go-tos when you can't decide quickly?

First world problem :squinting-tongue

I go to this one. Solid steel, serrated and small enough to go anywhere

A Spyderco has been my carry knife for years.

I just bought/ordered: 2 - Spyderco Native Chiefs in CruWear; 3 - Spyderco Native Chiefs in Magnacut, one serrated; 1 - Spyderco Shaman in S90V(my first Shaman and I am really looking forward to it).

Received about 1+ months ago a Spyderco Enuff 2 in K390 and I like it very much, so will be ordering 2 more, and I'll be carrying all 3 at once as soon as I work out how to do so.

EDIT: I forgot my Spyderco Lil Native in 10V. Just got that too. It's beautiful and I think I will put it in the car during the Spring, Summer and Fall months in case I go into Chicago.

I think if this includes ALL folders of all brands it should perhaps be moved to off topic... or we stick with Spydies - ?

In my case the only choice anway: All my quality folders are Spydercos these days.

On most days I know instinctively (or purpose driven) right away which of my Spydies I want to carry.

But should I hesitate: Thinking about it, it is the VG10 Endela SE that in such cases almost always takes the space in my pocket:

Compact, light carry, great ergos (for me), best serration pattern I personally have ever used (ok, just got my Chap SE, this one could beat the Endela), sturdy, but still slicey blade, only downside is the a bit short cutting edge.

Top three going by pocket-time (update April 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10), Chaparral SE (CTS XHP)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Endela SE (K390)

Fortunately I don't have this problem, I have the opposite...I have a really hard time rotating to other knives once I get attached to one.

Right now though I'm doing my best to rotate between my (beloved) Bodacious, a SE Military 2 and a SE MagnaCut Chief.

If I couldn't decide for whatever reason I don't think I have any wrong answers in my entire collection but it would hands down be the Bodacious. With the convex I put on it the thing just slices like nothing else.

Today though I actually have a Microtech on me...that's my dirty little secret romance 🤣

I never have issues deciding.

If I'm in a big hurry and want to grab something I know can handle everything, I'd reach for a Pacific Salt and Leatherman Rebar.
May you find peace in this life and the next.

Fun game. My go-to is a teal-G10 S90V PM2 because I rarely feel under-knifed with a PM2, S90V stays sharp and is rather stainless (live by the sea), and the teal handle makes it more stranger-friendly for some reason when they see it in action. In the summer there's a few months when I often carry non-stainless, and during that time the go-to is a crucarta PM2.

Now that I've gone from 34 knives down to 10, it's a heck of a lot easier. If I'm debating for a few minutes, it usually ends up being a CRK or Cruwear Delica. Something about the Delica, may seem plain and boring and not all figedty/flicky...but it's a darn good knife.

I though about Off-topic when deciding where to post this, then decided...nah. This, being a Spyderco forum, will have many members posting Spydercos.

This too. I've been carrying my REX121 Sage 5 a lot, and there have been times where I've been driving by the water and see fellow anglers out along the shore. Stainlessness becomes a consideration sometimes when I'm not at work.

When I'm in a hurry, I grab the first Native 5 or Endela that I see.

If I need to grab one without thinking about it, usually one of my Native 5 G10. Although, since I got this one,

These are by far my most carried knives the last 5 years:

...but if that's cheating and I have to pick one then it's the XM24

Lately, the Roadie XL has been my workday office carry. Small and light, with a capable blade and pointy tip. I love the smooth contoured scales every time I put my hand in my pocket to retrieve my keys.

My weekend carry is the straight-spine Stretch 2.

I carry diffetent knives depending on my mood. But for the past year+, when I can't decide which, it's mostly been either my PM2 in DLC S35VN, or my VG-10 SE Endela.

Take your pick of the other three, but the Dragonfly 2 Emerson Opener is mandatory.
