A Sage 6 would perhaps be the most plausible option for that... ?
I wish Spyderco would develop their own version of the Shark lock.

Ah, read that only after I made my Sage-comment above...
/ And personally I'd probably rather see more CBBL models than such with a new lock...

I don't know if it would be able to fit in a Sage handle, it may require a new platform.

I don’t think it would ergonomically feel right on any spyderco with a hump/thumb ramp, it would have to be a straight spine model, like a native or bodacious.

Re: I wish Spyderco would develop their own version of the Shark lock.
I was initially impressed with my 20.5's shark lock, but ultimately I just got annoyed with the complete lack of detent force. Flicking open any of my Demko's never felt great. I felt like Snecx's superlock was a bit better overall, though in that lock's case I was less impressed with the ergonomics of the Vision FG it was attached to. Great blade but a weird knife to hold onto.
Re: I wish Spyderco would develop their own version of the Shark lock.
The total lack of detent strength was the nail in the coffin for my AD20.
I got one in trade earlier this year and actually carried it quite a bit because of how well it's ground (.017" heel, .020" belly, .023" tip) for a hard use knife, but I just can't overlook the weird ergos and non-existent detent.

Re: I wish Spyderco would develop their own version of the Shark lock.
I got my first shark lock a few weeks back cuz I've always been curious about them. Got the Shark Cub model with the slicer blade profile. Love the blade shape. It's pretty good but I personally didn't like the handle ergos in combination with the positioning of the lock tab. The tab just got in the way of my thumb if I held it below the finger groove. The knuckle of my thumb would sit right on top of the tab and I could semi-disengage the lock that way if I didn't consciously extend my thumb further forward. If I choked up on the handle with the finger choil, that solved the problem of hitting the tab, but then there's really not much space on the choil and nothing protecting your index finger from the blade unlike on a Spyderco finger choil, so I just didn't feel comfortable using it that way either. If one had larger fingers than I do, then their finger would basically sit right on top of the heel of the blade. Probably fine with a hammer grip though vs a thumb forward grip.
I like the design of the lock internals though. Clearly a very strong design and inherently ambi. Cold Steel has a very similar lock design on one of their knives (don't remember the model off the top of my head) where the lock bar tab is flush with the the handle so nothing is sticking out. If Spyderco ever did a Demko lock collab, I think that would be a better way to go in combination with a handle forward design.

I liked the lock when it first came out. The coil spring should last a long time and not be prone to breaking like a BM omega spring.

Hi Sal, thanks for the information. I think Mr.Demko respect you and Spyderco a lot. I hope he'll reach back. It's cool to see Spyderco being so open, probably why you're my favorite company.sal wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 12:59 pmI spoke with Mr. Demko at the Blade Show a couple of years ago. He is a very innovative designer. We talked about a collaboration using one of his locks, but he didn't get back to me. I'm guessing he just wanted to do his own thing. We're open, but it takes two?
We created the Compression Lock, the Ball Bearing lock, the caged ball lock and we have two locks that we've not used, even though there are patents on them.
Eric has plans to use more locks (3) on the Sage series that are in-the-works.

It would be great to have a collaboration. I think the Native 5 would be a cool candidate for it.
