My very first was Manix XL. Back in 2012 or 2013. It was my first "proper" knife. I wanted something with a good secure grip and to be a good performer. It was recommended to me by a close friend and he actually introduced me to the brand. At first I wasn't very convinced, but after using it for a few days I started appreciating it more and more. Overall the ffg leaf shaped blade changed how I look at knives and started forming my perspective of what I want from a knife - performance and quality and affordable at the same time. And about dozen years later I'm still going strong. Learned to appreciate not only the big boys but all the line up from dragonfly to military. They all have they uses.
Delica 4 stainless steel handle. At the time it was one of the few lefty friendly knives in that price range (I think I bought it back in 2006 or 2007). As a package I was impressed with how easy it was to use with the pocket clip and opening hole.

What was your first Spyderco knife, and how did it change your perspective?
Manix 2 LW in S110V.
As a fan of Benchmade's Axis lock, I was curious about the CBBL. That's what got me hooked. What reeled me in was Spyderco's variety of steels. You're like Baskin-Robbins for metalheads.
Mine was the fully serrated Police model in Gin1 steel.
It was a game changer with the serrated cutting performance, thumbhole opening and corner of the pocket placement due to the clip. Truly game changing due to the design features and materials.
I carried it on duty in my LE job until eventually a 440V serrated Millie kicked it out of my pocket. Its still in my collection to this day.

Mine was either a Dragonfly or Persistence. Not sure which I bought first. They were close together. The round hole opening hooked me pretty good. I've gifted both of those knives to others and have since bought many others
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most!
Around 2001 , I was at my desk at Caterpillar trying to correct a huge inventory problem when an electrician stopped by and introduced himself and said he heard I was a fan of kmives . He showed me a C39 Mini Dyad and a Delica and didn’t at first understand the concept until he used the hole in the blade to open and they had this clip thing going ! I was immediately sucked in but told him too small for me . He told me no worries he could get me a large Dyad if interested. The C44 came in days later and worked perfectly for me , being able to have two different blades in one knife gave it a retro feel but the blade shapes were so unique one blade reminded me of a bird and the other in serrated reminded me of an alligator. I’m actually on my second one and also the sprint and will never part with them . MG2

If I'm remembering correctly, I think it was a CF/S30V UKPK from about 18-20 years ago. I really liked the simplicity of the design and the materials. S30V was pretty new at the time, I remember that. This eventually led to a CF/ZDP-189 Caly 3 and a couple DF2s in ZDP-189. I liked the fact that I could get really cool blade steels in a relatively inexpensive knife to play around with. Loved the hole in the blade!
Not the first, that was a partially serrated Ladybug (AUS 6) that almost turned me off Spyderco. The Q though: fully serrated, sharp, quality steel (440C) with a good heat treat, pocket clip, and thumbhole for one handed opening.
My first knife was a AUS-8 Endura my dad gave me about 30 years ago. It was my first knife quality knife. Personally I blame it for my dive down the rabbit hole of proper sharpening and the love of knives. Still have it and works like it did when it was new.

C01 Worker, circa 1991. I thought it was goofy looking, which is why I hadn't bought one sooner. My local dealer (Bladerunner in Dallas/FW) finally convinced me. Since that purchase, I've bought very few knives that lack a clip and aren't one-hand opening.
From the jump, it was clear that Spyderco was a high-quality brand and, at the time, quite a bargain.

What stood out to me with my first Spydie were the awesome blade grind and the slim, grippy FRN handles. I was used to hardware store type folders and to say this thing cut and carried much better is an understatement. I remember buying the purple handle color thinking it would be sheeple friendly. It was still a little too large for me to EDC in urban environment, so I bought a Delica next, and then my Spyderco obsession was cemented. This Endura lives in my toolbox for all kinds of projects, has slayed ungodly amounts of cardboard, and has been the food prep and survival knife while camping (until I got into salt knives which largely took over the outdoors roles). I have fortunately not lost this knife and it's still serving me well.
