Now that I've seen David's Rockscale Bodacious, it's just a matter of time til I jump on the bandwagon. I've been holding out, partly because the comp lock isn't my favorite, partly because I was hoping for another steel choice, but mainly because I'm tired of the satin S30V/black G-10 combo.

But now there's a blackout version and my favorite brand replacement scales. I'll probably spring for the blackout, see if I like the scales okay and, if not, grab the Rockscale replacements. Or maybe AWT, since they're cheaper and lighter, and very nice in their own right.

They AWTs are very nice too. For the Bodacious, they went with their new pattern. Contoured and using the new more agressive milling. Their milling pattern while nice was a bit too slick. Both updates should make for an awesome combination. They did change the grip layout though. Not sure I will prefer that over the standard layout. I'm glad RSDs kept the standard layout the same.

Thanks for the heads-up on the grip layout. If I like the feel of the OEM scales, I doubt I'd be willing to go for the new AWT layout. Usually Spyderco ergos work great for me, and the only change I want is softened edges, even just a little, which the RSD scales have.

On the other hand, if the OEM scales don't feel right, I could change the feel by trying the AWT scales.

I'm getting pumped!

I came really close to buying scales from Ripps Garage Tech:

https://rippsgaragetech.com/products/sp ... scale-sets

I emailed them about removing the thumb grooves on theirs and they basically said they'd look into it but I never heard more. Then I noticed that for some reason they changed the shape of the grip at the blade end, and the change pushes your index finger away from the edge which I just have no idea why you'd want that so that turned me off on what are otherwise some gorgeous scales.

It sure does! Wide leaf blade with a lowered point. It's like a Lum, but with a guard that doesn't allow your finger to slide forward.

The lack of anything stopping the hand from sliding forward was the only reason I sold my ZDP Lum. I'd be happy to replace it with a Bodacious variant, someday.
Your comparison pic again makes me want to see a linerlock Bodacious version..
Won´t ever happen, I know, but perhaps should the model get really, really popular a TI frame lock... ?

Steve is fairly active on the FB group Millie, PM2, Para 3 Group. He showcased these before he released them. I asked him about removing that change and reverting back to the original closer to the blade edge. He said they were going to stick with that change. I wonder if he kept that so you could front flip it like the Shaman?? That was my theory. I am not a fan of that change. I love his other scales and swear by the aluminum Native scales, so I guess you can't win them all.

That does sound like it could work but yeah it's not for me. This is the best ergonomics in a folder that I've found so I'm pretty territorial about changing it.

^ Gotta agree with that. Pushing the hand back from the edge just negates the beauty of the original design, IMO.

The Shaman was a very special design in that we worked on it for a couple of years before I was satisfied. Many prototypes. Then I felt that there would need to be variations in the design, and not just the materials, like Sprints and Exclusives, so we created the Choil-less version, which was the Bodacious and the 3rd variation of the design should be coming out soon.

You will probably see variations in materials and colors with all of the 3 pieces.

I hope that means we get a Crucarta version!
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

It's my favorite Spyderco. I don't say that lightly. I'm really hoping for 15V and MagnaCut.

Edgerati is the name of the third version right? Even thinner blade stock if I recall.

Both true as far as I recall... but I am almost certain Sal also talked about it as the "racing Shaman" (most likely more a description, not the actual/final name of the product)

Correct, "racing Shaman" would have just been a descriptor for the general concept. "Edgerati" is the effective working name for the final product.

Well, I sincerely hope the final version of the thinnest one is choil less as well... The Bodacious is easily knife of the year for me and a thinner version would make it my daily.

Thanks, Nick!
Yes, this is what I vaguely recalled.

... Wonder if the "Edgerati" will actually feature that "spyder-webish" handle...
we'll see... hopefully soon. :smirk

That is the final design, it will feature that handle. The handle is actually a major feature of knife.

This is the inspiration for the handles - Imagehttps://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-1959- ... archtype=0

Anyway, I don't mean to derail the Bodacious discussion. I still haven't got one but would like to change that soon.

The Polestar is the model that got me hoping for a choiless Golden made model. Super excited this one finally made it to market. It's about perfect for me. I really like that it still has a stout tip. The overall blade thickness is thinner than the Military lineup.

Thanks Sal for this one. Excited for some variations of it.
