Just found a plain edge s30v gunting

Post by denny »

Just picked it up for $140 I guess it was a good deal. Now I can finally get to do the kinetic openings I have heard about :D . Very nice knife no play at all, does the plain edge make it more rare.

That's a steal. Where did you find it though? I thought I'd exhausted all resources in my hunt for those.

You could always turn around and make money by selling it(to me ;) )

In all honesty, thats a great score, extremely hard to find. Congratulations.

But please, no kinetic openings on your leg, thats just not a good idea.

Simona's not only the president of the club, she's also a member ;)

Which in turn begs the question, how many of us actually have the elusive S30V PE Gunting?

We all know Simona's got one(gorgeous pics), and denny's got one now, and I got mine by sheer luck a few months back. What about the rest of the Kinetic addicts?

Where are the rest of the S30V PE Guntings? I know there has to be more that have one.

Anybody?

Not a lot from what I've heard. There were changed to S30V right before they were discontinued, and most of them went to fill backorders, so they weren't available through most of the normal channels.

It is odd though, because S30V CE is still readily available if you look hard, thats what most vendors have left in stock, the rest sold already.

Someone else may know more than I, as I'm only a relatively recent kinetic kool aid addict.

Wow, I knew it was a small amount, but if thats true, thats crazy. That puts the odds of me getting a second pretty low ;)

Nice score. Enjoy your new fine Gunting. Too bad they're discontinued. And also too bad the Tusok didn't have a chance :( :( :(

Aloha denny,

Oh yeah...this knife has a lot of..."tricks" to it! ;) I hope when you got yours, you didn't do what I did: I Kin-Oped it off my wife's arm! :o :D

Practice safely and "keep it real"...God bless!

Well, not on the wife's arm but I did on my own leg which I later read was a very bad idea. At least I didn't get cut and I won't try that again.

Last month I purchased one for $137 on eBay along with one today at Blade West for $100. The one I purchased today has a serial number of 798 and the ramp is a touch different then the one without the serial number.

Now need to hunt down a trainer/drone and training tapes/dvd.

Does anyone know just how many of the S30V Spyderco Guntings were made? I heard from a source that there are only about 100 or so in existence? Also why would the Plain edged version have a big advantage ove the the Combo edge that I currently own?

See the other thread for info about the Trainer and videos.

I'm curious though, was the Gunting you got off Ebay an S30V PE? If so, you got extremely lucky, because I watch Ebay carefully when it comes to Guntings, and if an S30V PE slipped under my radar, I'm going to feel pretty stupid ;)

I know there are subtle differences between the 440V and S30V versions, but what exactly is different on the ramp? Just wondering. I don't have all of mine in front of me to compare, so I'm not sure what the differences are.

I also have heard that only about 100 were produced. I doubt theres that much advantage of the PE over the CE, but most people prefer PE knives, so it just makes sense that the PE is more desirable.

Look at the prices Ebay gets for 440V PE, versus 440V CE. Can't really compare S30V PE to CE on Ebay, as I've never seen an S30V PE up there, unless I missed the one Gallaghe acquired.
