Manix 2 vs Manix 2 Lightweight

#1

Post by C_Money »

Is the blade the same in the lightweight vs the regular one? I like some of the blade options of the lightweight but I don’t like the scales and want to change them to the AWS non lightweight.

Just curious.

I've done a few blade swaps between lightweight and G10 models and personally never had any issues, but apparently others have. I swapped my Maxamet blade into G10 scales about 2 weeks after it was released and have been using it regularly ever since.

There's a guy that makes replacement backspacers to use non-LW aftermarket scales, and he even has a "compensated" version in case you run into problems with lockup.

These scales are a good option for the Manix LW: https://appliedweaponstech.com/spyderco ... -anodized/

AWT scales are absolutely awesome replacements for the lightweight scales.

Not a great picture, the hump in the handle is gone and the edges are contoured instead of blocky. To me it's way more comfortable in the hand.

Doesn't this defeat the purpose of the lightweight? The lightweight is super strong. One of our members here dropped one of his off of a cell phone tower about 100 feet or so onto the gravel below and it didn't do anything at all to the knife.

Strong, yes. Unbreakable, absolutely not. The reason I replaced the lightweight scales is because they cracked. Not even sure how it happened. The only thing that kept it from completely breaking was the little steel insert by the blade.I did Rit Dye the scales about 4-5 months before this happened, did this possibly make them weaker? Maybe but highly doubtful. Honestly the .5 oz. more it weighs isn't even noticeable.

Thanks for the comparison, seems very popular to eliminate the hump with aftermarket scales
