Post by standy99 »

Thought we need a thread to show the stuff we have for putting our mule handles on.
Can be pieces of wood, Micarta…etc

I will start with some pins recently acquired.

More, more! I am eager to see how you do things. Colored pins are something I never thought of.

That's the kind of workshop where things get done!

Well, actually both styles work. Some people are productive and somehow get amazing things done and keep everything neat as a pin. Others do fantastic work in the midst of what looks like total chaos.

Found it worked out too expensive to buy wood blocks for handles….buy in bigger pieces nowadays
Drops the piece per block down to 1/4 the price ;)

Those look great Andy! We must be shopping in the same department :winking-tongue

Not sure where mine will end up. I have 3 kitchen knives to do and 5 mules but motivation and other interests are keeping me out of the garage.

That's really nice. Did you dye the wood yourself, or buy it dyed?

It came dyed. It is a very light like pine wood that takes a colour well when being stabilised.

I usually buy the occasional block of stabilised wood off a block seller here in Australia when I am buying other blocks as some people like a colour

Major achievement for me today, I figured out how to get photos to post again. I am functionally computer illiterate and it really effects how I communicate recently. Anyway...

These are some raw scale materials I picked up in the summer. The stones slabs are Jade and Wonder stone. I do not know what the wood is but I needed a new table saw blade to cut it, the old blade only smoked and spun. It is heavy, dark and not oily like teak. It is really chippy and splinters easy.

No plans for which Mule to get a handle on yet. Aeb-l with Halpern scales in the photo. Only planning to get one done.

Not sure where else to put it but since I can add photos now, and I am excited about new supplies and all.

I bought my first ever table saw last week, used fair price. I have cut slabs with a hand saw and evened them out while shaping, it can be done. But, it is really nice to go zip-zap and have a couple clean, square slabs to start with.

The pic shows some reclaimed furniture teak that I have been cutting up to make utensils.
