I'm actually watching some YouTube videos on spotting Police clones as I type this. I cannot get enough of this knife stuff. I'm starting to get into the chemistry of knife steels too. Starting to nerd out a bit, but this makes me happy.

which one do you like best?

Myself, I like the ergos of gen 4 the best but the blade shape on gen 3 works better for me. Gun to my head I'd go with the 3rd gen, but I do like them all.

Oh boy....the 2nd one in from the left has been customized with laser etching. My gf got it for me and it was my first Police. It feels SMALL after I've carried the GEN 3 and GEN 4 ones.

I have been really giving the g-10 GEN 4 k390 a lot of pocket time. Agreed about the ergos! Here are the blades, I forgot to add the type of blades each has!!!!!!!!!!!

That Police you sold me is being put to work! Never tried a wharncliffe blade yet. How do you like those?

Great to hear! Wharncliffe is amazing for me in the electrical trade. It’s a great utility blade for cutting cardboard, tape, wire insulation, ceiling tiles, scoring drywall, rope, zip ties and more. Depends on your use💪🏼

How come the Police 3 G10 seems to demand a decent amount of money? Is it that rare?

I don't think it sold all that well, so there may not be as many of them out there. I personally didn't really consider it to be a real Police, but that's just me being the grumpy old fart that I naturally am. I was too busy looking for variations on the first two generations to pay much attention to the 3.

That makes sense to me now. I'm actually looking for some older Gen 1 models. There is one on eBay someone is selling for about $850. The description says it's from '84, first year of the Police, with the P.I.G. on the blade. Very cool blade. Looks to be in great condition.

What would you say is the most collectible or sought after model of the Police line?

The PE P.I.G. is probably the most sought after, especially in left hand. I've seen those go for over $1200. Too rich for my blood. Factory black second gens usually fetch a premium as well.

Is the Police 3 worth hanging onto?

That would be up to you. They are selling for more now than they did when they were new, and there aren't going to be any more made, so they may hold their value. They may also be forgotten and their value could vanish, who knows? I'm certainly holding onto mine, but that's just me.

I really do like the blade shape on it. It is unique for sure. Not as much belly as the Police 4. I'll sleep on it. It is fun to carry.

The ones I've seen actually sell sold for $150-200.

I paid $117 for mine around 2008.

Adjusted for inflation they'd cost around $170.75 using https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/

So, adjusted for inflation, they're basically selling for the same price they did new.

I've bought and sold them in the $150-200 range over the past decade so I'm speaking from experience.

Collectors don't seem to care about that gen. Their worth is for hardcore collectors that want one of every gen, and people that prefer using that gen to the current.

I'd pick up another at $150-180, but wouldn't personally pay beyond that. But I'd be buying to use it, not collect.
May you find peace in this life and the next.

Very good points. I am just torn. I want to post it on eBay. I paid over $200 for it, and I am a collector, but I like to use them more than just have them sit around for me to look at and wonder about.

If it was between a Police 4 K390 and the Police 4 VG-10, which way would you all lean? If you could keep one for EDC?
