Future of Crucarta-family

#1

Post by mpc2 »

In one of the recent Bladeshow videos, Eric says something to the effect of "We are doing the whole US Family" .
Maybe i misunderstood, or he misspoke ...
A shaman is probably off the table, because there was already a Sprint in Crucarta.

I would love a Native and a Native Chief however!
Those are not too unrealistic, I guess, because the Native 5 originally had that kind of build , G10 sandwiching full liners.
Would instantly buy a copy of each *hint* .

I would definitely spring for a Crucarta Native 5 and Chief. Especially the Chief. Would probably snag a lil' Native too if they became available.

I think if we see a factory micarta handled Chief it will have liners-- which would change the character of the knife too much for my tastes. I suspect they would re-engineer the model for such a change.

I bet they do a PD#1 Shaman so as to not under-cut their collectors. I wish they'd just say "screw it" and do the Crucarta Shaman again, but I think Sal + Eric have too much integrity to go back on their word.

The more I think about it, the more it works like an advertising hook. If they offer the Crucarta everything, but not the Shaman, they get people to ask: "why not the Shaman?"

That's an opportunity to tell a story. A story about integrity.

I'd love to see the Crucarta Chief, even with liners.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Couldn't they just change the scale color if they were to reintroduce a crucarta shaman? They're not against having an odd one out, the Spy27 Manix LW doesn't match the rest of the family. As I understood it its a knife as a whole; steel/scale material/scale color. As long as they switch it up in some way then it's not the same knife. Seems more likely they'd just use different color micarta rather than switching up the steel.

Then everyone can ask why the crucarta shaman is grey, green, or denim etc. That's an opportunity to tell a story, a story about artificial scarcity. Which let's be honest is absolutely genius level marketing on Spydercos part lol.

As far as I recall it was for whatever reason not possible to give the FRCP of the Manix LW the exact same "Spy 27 blue" as the other models in that steel have, and that's why it looks different.

Does still not speak against your proposal of course!
Top three going by pocket-time (update April 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10), Chaparral SE (CTS XHP)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Endela SE (K390)

Or they could just Crucarta the Bodacious and skip the Shaman.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Native 5 and Chief get skipped rather than reintroducing liners on the N5 and introducing them on the Chief. Linerless micarta isn’t something I’d expect them to do ever again. I’d sooner guess that they’d do grey G-10 or FRN on those instead if they wished to do Cruwear models. I can really get behind that. 👍👍

PD#1 Shaman with burgundy micarta please. The tan, brown, OD green, and other earth tones are so boring anyway. Lets see some red, green and blue micartas

I would be in for a burgundy micarta Shaman, DLC, Ti Nitride or stonewash blade, made of something like PD#1 or CPM-M4.

A Crucarta Shaman would also be excellent...But I prefer a stonewash or a black blade over a satin finish.

I do not like the idea of skipping the crucarta Shaman and do it with the Bodacious. I understand why some people might prefer the Bodacious and not the Shaman, but for me the Shaman is superior. It is unique.

It isn't possible to "skip" the Crucarta Shaman, as it was the originator of the type.

We can be pretty sure they won't do an identical run again. Any micarta but natural canvas could be fair game in a CruWear Shaman.

I am more interested in them doing the Seki family.

Dragonfly, Delica, Delica Wharnie, Endela, Endura, Stretch XL and a keychain knife like the Jester or Manbug Wharnie.

I'd like to see the linerlock Military get the Cru-carta treatment as well as a well deserved final sendoff for a classic model before the Military 2 all but replaces it.

:party-face Cru-Carta Native Chief! I'll take one with liners. Some additional heft to the knife sounds fine by me.
