Sage 5 Rex 121 Release Date?

#1

Post by Slicespice »

Hello All,

I'm excited like everyone else for the Sage 5!

Was the release date ever mentioned or is there any idea of when it may actually drop?

Thanks in advance

Guessing… About the time dealers start filling pre-orders. Sometimes it takes a long
time from announcement to the shelves. Announcement usually means production
is scheduled.

Syderco doesn't provide release dates. Prevents disappointment if something happens to take a little longer to produce.

So there's no idea when will drop. Just wait patiently as most of us have learned to do

I believe these have been in the works since ~2021, so I'd assume sooner than we have come to expect for some revealed models. This is not to say that production started in 2021, but I believe it has all been dialed in and is ready to hit the market quite soon.

As a side note, it was confirmed by Eric in this year's Blade Show video interview with Blade HQ that both LW FRN and G-10 handled variants are in fact standard production pieces and not Sprint Runs. The market will now be able to pit Maxamet vs REX 121 in a head-to-head, apples-to-apples comparison at a larger scale. Very cool stuff.

As a massive side note that will undoubtedly get its own thread, the Sage 5 was introduced in the video as getting the Salt treatment, with Magnacut steel. This is of course, once Magnacut can actually hit the shelves :winking-tongue. I'm just teasing, Spyderco. They found a way to run their pivot bushing system in it whilst still retaining its Salt capabilities. Awesome! That was exciting news from Eric, and I know many of us have been eager to catch a model to try out Magnacut.

If that's the case it seems like the Sage series may be pivoting from a lock-tribute platform to a folding Mule platform.
While I'd obviously would like to see more lock variations added to the series, branching out like this seems like a good idea.
Even if the range of steels may not turn out to be very comprehensive, I think there are quite a few enthusiasts that would appreciate a folding knife platform to compare steels.

I would not be too sure even Spyderco knows ar this arage. To release a product means that it reached a stage when it was decided that it will be industrialized. Not necessarily is the timing already set all the way to the delivery.
