AI art knows Spyderco
AI art knows Spyderco
Anyone following AI won’t be too surprised, but thought it was interesting what I got from CoPilot when asking for Spyderco in 15v steel. A couple examples below. All had the opening hole dead on. However color doesn’t match 15v:
Re: AI art knows Spyderco
Interesting, but I don't think Sal has to worry about looking for a new job just yet.
Re: AI art knows Spyderco
This kind of freaks me out and makes me sad at the same time. Always trust yourself and trust your instincts.
Do right always. It will give you satisfaction in life.

There will be companies that design and produce knives this way, unfortunately. “Ai designed” will probably be the marketing gimmick too.
I really despise this pseudo-creative Ai plague.

i feel the same way. i'm not anti-progress or anything, but i hate to see the way people are running to ai for everything. we are ushering in some really bad times for humanity and we're doing it completely devoid of caution.

Re: AI art knows Spyderco
If the hollow grind on that second one was real it would meet in the middle long before the edge (based on the apparent stock thickness at the spydie hole).
AI seems pretty heavy on the A and light on the I so far.

Re: AI art knows Spyderco
I agree with this sentiment.
But, as AI Spydies proliferate, we’ll probably also get a deepfaked Sal endorsing “his” new designs, and not recognize the deception.

I think they made a movie trilogy about all that AI stuff. I think part one was “the terminator,” part two was “the matrix,” and part three was “idiocracy.”

Hi Mat_ski,
Welcome to our forum.
When my kids were little, the question was looking for the "missing Link" between the monkey and humans. I told them that actually, we (humans) are the missing link between the monkey and the machine.
In this time of very rapid development, it's challenging to try to see the future in general, even 20 years from now, much less in knives.
So my question s; why AI? What is the advantage other than saving some money for some companies?
Time for a thread on predicting the future of the knife industry 20 years from now?

Re: AI art knows Spyderco
There might be companies playing with such things, but when I see how fast 3D modeling software can be used nowadays, I don't see the tpoint just yet
In the collection : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.

Re: AI art knows Spyderco
I dabble in some sort of artistic 3d modeling. I’ve used AI image generators to generate inspirational images and kind of free associate from there. I picked this up from a popular 3d modeler. I think it’s a common technique.
There are definitely knives out there that are primarily works of art. The whole fantasy knife genre for instance. So this could be useful in that context. Even the prettiest of Spydies are still utility oriented for the most part so I can’t imagine it being all that useful.

Re: AI art knows Spyderco
For me the second AI knife’s blade looks like a ripoff of the howard Viele Spydie.
Personally I detest AI and the over use of Robots in the industry.
(Nothing against Robots for doing jobs that a man isn’t physically made for. Like with very heavy parts and such. Or some specialized jobs. But for the rest i wish they kept jobs more for people.
That is why i find Spyderco such an honorable company. They invest in people and care about them not like most companies in this world where only the numbers count…
