Pacific Salt 1st Gen question
Did the Pacific Salt have the initial design on the opposite side of H1 stamping ? Or was it incorporated during the run of production ? MG2

Re: Pacific Salt 1st Gen question
It was added to the Pacific Salt near the end of its run.
First gens were pinned with squared clips.
Seconds gens, I believe, incorporated two changes at the same time. Rounded clips and screw construction.
Third gens added blacked out hardware and lockbar like Pacific 2's, and Sal's logo on the back side. These are more rare as they were only produced the last couple of years.
By first gen, second gen, third gen, I am talking about different iterations of the Pacific Salt 1 to be clear.

Re: Pacific Salt 1st Gen question
Thank you . I had a first generation when they first came out but didn’t remember initial on the blade. I have been looking for a SE version to go with my newer model . I may have found one . Dan

Re: Pacific Salt 1st Gen question
yeah. the name was added just before switching to the pac salt 2. mine has uncoated screws, but a coated lockbar, and it does not have sal's logo. it was purchased in 2016, but i've never taken it apart to see the date code.

Re: Pacific Salt 1st Gen question
I have one of each as Vivi described above, and I like them all better than any of my Pac Salt 2s. A forum discussion between Vivi and another member, debating which was better, prompted me to try a secondary-mkt OG, and I was immediately hooked.
I feel the same about the OG Salts. Wonderful knives. There's just something about them.

Re: Pacific Salt 1st Gen question
I could get by with either being the last folder I ever own, but I'd choose the 1 over the 2 also.
I liked how simple and sturdy the handle construction was, and the finger grooves always worked a bit better for me than the 2. They had a little more contouring too.
If anyone wants I can do a photo comparison of all three versions.

the lighter texturing and better contours make the 1 slightly nicer iwb also.

Thanks again , Pacific appears to be the last run . What threw me was the screw construction and adjustable pivot . Danvivi wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 10:38 pmI could get by with either being the last folder I ever own, but I'd choose the 1 over the 2 also.

Re: Pacific Salt 1st Gen question
Thanks LB confirming , the one I am looking at is definitely the last variant. It has the newer clip , and all hardware is black . The initial threw me off . Re: Pacific Salt 1st Gen question
Ok, I'll compare them all tomorrow.
Re: Pacific Salt 1st Gen question
I own three Gen 1 Pac Salts; two of which are pinned, and the third has the torx screws and the rounded-end clip. The Pac Salt 1 was based on the Endura 3.
I don't own a Pac Salt 2, but I do own a few Endura 4's, which the Pac Salt 2 is based on, only the latter is without liners.
I used to think that aesthetically, the Endura 4/Pac Salt 2 is 'better-looking'. But I've come to realize that the Endura 3/Gen 1 Pac Salt handle feels better in hand, and I prefer the simplicity of the barrel screw pocket clip, the solid (non-checkered) insides of the FRN scales, and the overall feel in hand, over the E4 shape.
The non-checkered inner sides of the handles on the Gen 1 makes for a more solid handle. IMO, the checkering inside of the Pac Salt 2's FRN handle scales would make it a bit less solid, while providing spaces for mud, sand, or other gunk to collect in.

Re: Pacific Salt 1st Gen question
I agree with some of the posts here in that I also prefer the Pac Salt 1 over the Pac Salt 2. Pacific Salt 1 is just pure simplicity and a wonderful user.
However, I prefer the Salt 2 over the Salt 1 in the smaller knives.(weird, eh?)

Re: Pacific Salt 1st Gen question
So it appears there are actually a minimum of five versions of the OG Pacific Salt.
Pinned, squared clip, no logo, silver hardware, coarse jimping.
Pinned, squared clip, no logo, silver hardware, fine jimping.
Screw construction, squared clip, no logo, silver hardware, fine jimping.
Screw construction, rounded clip, no logo, silver hardware, fine jimping.
Screw construction, rounded clip, Sal's logo, black hardware and lock bar, fine jimping.
Pacific Salt 2 for comparison.
Bear in mind most of these were modded with dyed handles and an attempt at adding a choil on the oldest one.
