I've thought about the jade GB2, but keep getting hung up on the handle. I know it can be dyed. But, it's still translucent so I'm not sure it can ever be dark. It's a similar reason why I have not gotten an Ultem yet also. Perhaps I need the G10/CF version instead as I like that on my Chap.
black is pretty dark my dude ;)

I dyed these BHQ M4 sprint scales twice. Kelly green then black. The black parts are as dark as stock scales.

Thanks for the photo. That's interesting looking for sure. But, if it is backlit, is it still translucent like the original jade scales? I saw someone else's photo that had died the jade with gray, but it was still translucent when backlit. It's a minor irritant, but not something critical. Then again, the jade GB2 is a steel I have already. My PM2 is Cru-wear/DLC. I don't have any M4 yet, though, which may push me a bit more towards the G10/CF version.

the green areas are translucent but the black areas are not. They're black, even held up to a light.

Thanks for confirming. I'll consider the jade GB2 knowing I can black it out if desired.

The Sliverax mentioned before is another possible and I'm considering a few others as well, Cricket SE, Yojimbo, Canis. I'm thinking more about the Lil' Native now, too, especially since I found a Wharnie version of it. I have an Endela Wharnie, but nothing this small. It would also make it different enough from the Chap.

I recommend getting the Canis n hand before purchasing. It has a lot going for it, but the first hump on the handle is really pronounced. More so than on the PM2. It locks the hand in very well but is uncomfortable under my middle finger.

Linerlock? Military or GB2.
That is a some of my gaps there. Linerlock, hollow ground blade, and maybe some different steels. So, I've been pondering the GB2. But, I'm still thinking about the upcoming Bodacious also. Perhaps I need more than one more. :winking-tongue
I don't see a framelock or CTS-XHP. KnifeHub has a Domino available. Use code "thanks" before 12/25 for 10% off.

Thanks for that info. I guess it will need to wait as there are no dealers close by me.

I have XHP for my favorite Spydie, the Chap, but no Spydie framelock yet; another gap. I've thought about the Sway, but wasn't sure I would use it. I had never heard of the Domino before. Thanks for that. I'm a bit leary about buying used, though, as I cannot easily return it if it has a problem and it may not have warranty either. Of course, some of that is possible when buying new, but less of a risk there I feel. For my purchases, it is either Spyderco or an official dealer, to make sure it's not fake and has full warranty.

After a bit of pondering, here is my queue for what might be next (until I change my mind again). :rofl

In no particular order...
  • Sliverax - It looks interesting enough to try it before it disappears. I like the handle forward look and don't mind flippers. Fidget friendly is nice.
  • Lil' Native warnie - After comparing handle (images and sizes) to my Chap, I think it would just fit my hand. A small warnie seems interesting also.
  • GB2 Jade - I don't have any handles this light and can always make it darker if needed. Covers the linerlock and hollow ground gaps.
  • Spydiechef - Covers the framelock and Ti gaps. I would probably use it more than the Swayback or McBee.
  • Cricket SE - It looks interesting as does the thinness in the pocket. Also covers the hollow ground, hawkbill, and framelock gaps.

...my favorite Spydie, the Chap...

Good taste, Sir!

If one want a small, actual EDC cutting tool it does not get any better than the Chap imo.
Top three going by pocket-time (update October 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endela SE (VG10), Manix 2 LW (REX45)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1)

Spyderco's that get the most carry time:
1.Manix 2 15v (would love to see the knife in LW version.)
2. Para 3 SPY27 LW SUMMER CARRY
3. Endura 4 in ZDP189, K390
4. Dragonfly 2 in K390 (This knife would move up in the list if the clip was deep carry.)
5. PM2, Chief, Kapara, Gayle Bradley 2, Domino, and assorted others

The Dragonfly would be much improved if the lanyard hole was positioned like the Para 3 LW.
The Dragonfly usually sits in my 5th pocket. It gets put through the washing machine often.

What are the rest of the folks carrying? :cheap-sunglasses

Hi, BarkingSpider2007. Welcome to the forum. But, I'm guessing you meant this post for a different thread, perhaps this one:
What knife do you actually carry and use the most?

Just to complete my first set as discussed above, this is the remains of purchasing my first three Spyderco. My first set of three Spyderco = 13. I think my math is off. :rofl

The first three to arrive were these:
  • Chaparral XHP Carbon Fiber/G10
  • Native 5 Salt MagnaCut FRN
  • Para Military 2 G10 Purple Cru-Wear
Image
Of these, my favorite is the Chaparral, though I also like the fidget friendliness of the PM2.

Today, I received this set:
  • Delica 4 Gray-Blue Zome Super Blue
  • Lil' Temperance 3 Lightweight VG-10
  • Caly 3.5 CLIPIT Carbon Fiber ZDP 189
  • Endela Lightweight Wharncliffe K390
  • Manix 2 Lightweight FRCP Black
  • Caribbean LC200N G10 Black/Yellow
  • Atlantic Salt Green LC200N
  • Pacific Salt 2 FRN Green LC200N
  • Endura 4 FRN K390
  • Native Chief Brown G-10 M390
Image
Now, I just need to use them to see which design aspects I prefer. I tried to get a blend of different things to experiment with.

Other than the Stretch 2 XL Nishijin that is not yet available, I think I might be done for a little while. This might provide me with a fairly nice cross-section of what Spyderco has to offer. But, just in case, did I miss anything I really should consider? If so, what would it be and what might it have that is different than these?

Thanks again, everyone.

As of today, this is my full Spydie collection (minus a few kitchen knives).

For the 'only 5' thread, I posted this message and image.

There was also a 'top 5' thread, but I'm still thinking about that one. It could be changing. Within a couple of weeks, I should have the next 5 I mentioned above. I'm not sure if they will change any of my favorites, though it's possible. I'm a little intrigued by the Sage 5 Maxamet also as it seems like a Chap with a real lanyard hole. A Yojimbo and a dragonfly are also starting to tempt me.

I don’t know why because I’m generally not a fan of small blades but I’m REALLY eyeballing a Techno 2 for my next Spyderco. It just seems so freaking cool and I LOOOOVE my chef and they’re designed by the same guy and are kinda similar. I just don’t know how much use I’d really have out of a knife that’s smaller than even a Delica.
Delica VG-10, Endura ZDP-189, Stretch 2 SS K390, Matriarch 2 VG-10, Para 3 LW BD1N, Para 2 CruCarta, Para 2 MaxaMet, Yojimbo 2 S30V, Manix 2 S30V, Knife Joy Manix 2 in 20CV, Teal Para 2 in S90V, Bade HQ Manix 2 Mint with M4, Blade HQ Shaman Micarta with M4, Mule in 15V, Delica in super blue/SUS410, Blade HQ Para 2 Natural Jade with satin M4, REC “Avocado” Para 2 204P, GPK White with DLC Rex 45, Knifejoy exclusive SpydieChef, Techno2, Caribbean sheepsfoot with dyed scales, cutlery shoppe orange/black DLC HXP wharncliffe Para 2, Endura VG10 SE wharncliffe project knife and a Bill Moran drop point in VG-10.

Next 5 in my queue:

Watu - Too interesting looking to resist further and KnifeCenter had it on sale.
Tasman Salt 2 Hawkbill SE - I've been wanting a good garden knife (for future use :winking-tongue)
Sage 5 Maxamet - A steel I didn't have yet instead of the "larger Chap CF" version.
Dragonfly 2 - Another small warnie, K390 this time like my Endela
Yojimbo 2 - All black version; too cool to resist.

I am seriously considering a new Dragonfly with a K390 blade. I am not quite there yet, but I am pretty close to ordering one when Spyderco gets some more back in stock.

Thanks for the Techno 2 mention. I hadn't heard of that one before. It looks interesting. I've added it to my wishlist to check out, but will need to wait until I get my SpydieChef in hand to know if I like that designer. Probably will, though. I just wish the Ti frame locks would have the cutout for the lock bar on the inside like the current CRKs do. For me, having it on the outside disturbs the look a bit by comparison.

I wasn't sure about small knives either. But, the Chap is my favorite Spydie so far and it's a bit smaller than a Delica. So, I'm checking out a couple smaller yet to get a better idea if I like that or if it's too little of a good thing.

Tim, try the Autonomy 2 some time. I got the satin PE in the other day and I love the design. I just wonder how much I'll carry it; autos are kinda a sketchy proposition in an urban environment.
