When changing my Byrd Robin 2 Wharncliffe
from tip-up to tip-down
the clip screws extended through the scales
interfering with the tang of the blade
and impairing the opening and closing.
This did not cause a problem tip-up
as there is plenty of extra space at the pointy end.
Are replacement screws of the correct length available?
Is it a warranty item?

Sounds like somebody assembled it with the wrong screws at the factory
I have done mods with 3rd party screws, and I used a bench grinder to shorten them for similar issues with tip-down carry. Be careful that you didn't damage the washer when putting the long screw in
