What are my options to repair Kapara? I opened it from the D shaped pivot sleeve side, out of round with bushing.

I got a lot of dust and dirt in my kapara and it was significantly affecting the opening/closing action. So i sat down yesterday to open it up to clean and re-lube the pivot area. When I went to put it all back together it was difficult to get the bushing back on the D shaped bolt sleeve of the pivot which was concerning because in my experience it has always slipped right on with zero force (eg. literally will drop right on). As I studied this disturbing situation, re-cleaning, and trying to figure out if i was just missing something really obvious that i was doing wrong, it suddenly dawned upon me that as i was disassembling the knife i was torquing on the bolt sleeve side of the pivot, which is D shaped, and probably warped it out of round (<devastated crying emoji here> well, at least the round part of the D). I take full responsibility and have zero expectation for any solution to be performed under warranty or without cost to me (which i will happily pay), but,and I have to ask, WHY on earth is there a T10 torx recess on the D shaped sleeve side at all?!! A person can't even know it is D shaped before disassembly! Is there some design, manufacturing, or aesthetic reason why there's a torx head on this side of the pivot that should not ever turn?

I managed to get it back together but it doesn't operate that great now. It's useable, but not great. What are my options to repair? My preference would be to simplify purchase a new pivot bolt sleeve and pivot bushing (im worried it has been affected by the out of round sleeve), and possibly the bolt side of the pivot as well and do the repairs myself. This is my everyday knife and I really don't want to package it up and send it in if I don't have to. Have not contacted Spyderco yet, I'm curious to see what sort of repair experiences others may have had and any thoughts on this strange design choice to put a torx head on the captive side of the pivot.

While I'm at it, I have a ZDP189 Dragonfly that I stopped using 2 years ago because my wire clip got caught on a door strike, completely jacking it up, and i never could get it back into decent shape (I don't even think I know where it is anymore). Are replacements easy to buy from Spyderco? I can't seem to find them easily for sale on the site.

You can call Spyderco's W&R department but, unfortunately, they may not repair due to lack of parts onhand for the Taichung models. But do call them and see what they say before deciding anything. Personally, I'd try to repair myself but I guess I'd have to see what we're dealing with before I could know what, if anything, I could do

I've wondered about the D-shaped pivots having a faux torx head too. My guess is it's strictly aesthetic

You can order a new clip for your Dragonfly from the SFO

Not entirely. It is there so you can apply counter-torque to prevent it from turning and ruining the flats on the barrel and hole.

Yeah I wondered about that as I was typing that response. I've never had to use a driver in the opposite side but I could see why it might be a good idea

The d-shape is merely to prevent the barrel from spinning.. you still need a screw in each side right??

You should be able to remove both screws from the pivot.

It's all one piece, like a D shaped Chicago screw. Applying torque is the equivalent of trying to make a hollow (thus deformable) d shaped tube turn inside the d shaped hole in the steel liner. No bueno.
