dont understand why people dont like frame locks. It seems, the harder to use them, the harder you will press down on the handle. which will put more force on the lock making it stronger.

The ATR is certainly not a small knife.There actually, doesn't appear to be all that much difference in size between the Manix and ATR. Handle and blade lengths are almost the same. I'm sure the Manix is thicker and wider though.
Lockbacks are probably the most reliable locks out there, so I'm not sure I follow your reasoning there.
Handle and blade weight causing blade play in a large knife does not seem right to me either. I would think if anything it would lessen play.

My problem with big folders that have a lockback is that there will be blade play because of the weight of the blade and the weight of the handle. That's my theory.

:spyder: Your theory is flawed. I own a manix and a chinook II, both have zero blade play. Both feel like fixed blades. :spyder:

The TI ATR is custom qaulity, It is on par with a Strider SMF, it is on par with a CRK Sebenza, The knife is that good, for hundreds less than those mentioned, if it has been discontinued it will be worth a fortune in the future. If you dont have one in TI and its going away my advice is get one and get one QUICK as no other knife has brought so much qaulity to market at that price level. It is that GOOD.

Are you right or left handed? I find Spyderco Compression locks to be better for a left hander. I can use them with ease left handed, but it is significantly more difficult trying to close it right handed.

Of course I've also noticed that the comp locks vary on different models. Some have the lock bar going one way, on others its the opposite.

Look at a Lil' Temp and then a Gunting, and the lock bars both go opposite ways, and both a designed for "right handed" carry. But the Gunting is far more lefty friendly than the Lil' Temp.

Of course it could just be me, maybe I'm the odd man out.

I'm sorry to say that the Ti ATR is going to be discontinued.

However, it is most definitely not due to lack of or slow sales. It is due to difficulties in production. Titanium is (as most all of you know) extremely difficult to work with.

The SS version is of course still available as is the new Black SS version.

As for the Dodo, the Fixed Blade Temperance and the Impala... final decisions have NOT been made yet. As soon as they are though we'll let you know.

One update, the Catcherman (C17PSBKE) has been discontinued for 2006.

Large and heavy folders 'should' have blade play? I don't think so.

Apart from the fact that my specimens of the Chinook and Manix show no play at all, I think that the huge spring prevents most play in the mechanism. The lockback springs on both the Chinook and Manix are really powerful. In a loose grip you can feel the whole knife reverberating with the 'shock' of locking the blade in place. I guesstimate that the force of the spring alone counters a lot of play. Also, online reports of incurable blade play in the Manix and Chinook are very scarce.
