Rumors, Rumors!!!

Post by JD Spydo »

I heard another Rumor the other day that the DODO is going to be discontinued. It seems like I also heard that one on the Ti ATR about a month ago. I have heard the same thing of the Temperance Fixed blade and the Impala as well. I heard all of those rumors in the last month. Maybe SFO knows the score?

I would hate to see the Ti ATR go, since I've yet to get one. At least we can trust the Spydercrew to post 'official' discontinued news well before the models vanish off the market. At least they have done so in the past years.

If there is tooth to that tale, it'd be lack of sales. How many people have actually bought one? I only have two. Plus, it looks like no one's unhappy with the steel-handled ATR and it's more affordable to boot. Also, knives like the Paramilitary and the Manix from that Glesser family and Keating's Chinook II and Janich's Yojimbo may have cut into sales as well.

Don't believe the rumors just yet, but do buy a ti-handled ATR if you've been craving one. And if you don't have them, get a Manix and Yojimbo, too!

I thought the Anniversary Delica was expensive too but I'd give my right arm for one now, live and learn. Those ti ATR's will be worth a pretty penny down the road. Look at the Wrench's, the Dyads, the Lum's.

I love the blade.
I don’t love the lock .
I love the handle martial.
But I don’t love the look of the handle.

If spyderco takes it off the market, that would be good news because that6 will mean plans for a better replacment.

I would love to see a 400$ Spyderco that is not expensive because of its collectability but because of the production cost.

...........................................................

I never handled a knife with a compression lock but isn't the compression lock a modified frame lock?

I would prefer a lockback.

Wasn't your complaint about the Manix that you DID Not like lockbacks?

I personally hate liner-locks and frame-locks. While I've yet to handle a compression lock it appears to have none of the drawbacks that I dislike in liner and frame locks; mainly having your finger in the path of the blade as it is closing. The reliabilty of liner locks is not the best either.

Yes but the ATR is not a big folder. The manix is huge.
My problem with big folders that have a lockback is that there will be blade play because of the weight of the blade and the weight of the handle. That's my theory.

I would not classify the ATR as a big folder. same goes for the military.

a big folder will have to be a frame lock or something similar.
Still, dont like frame locks.

hope this makes sense?
