hi,
I've got some new micarta scales for my PM2 and disassembled the knife and put the new scales on.
Now, I adjusted the blade that it runs smooth when opened and is in the middle when closed. However, I feel a stronger resistance from the locking ball when opening the blade, also when closing the blade and pressing the release it needs more force than used too.
Anyone has an idea what could went wrong?
At a first glance all looks good, now gaps or anything at the screws, scales etc ...
cheers
Patrick

Re: PM2 compression lock issue after disassembly
I like a strong detent on opening, I know it won’t come open in my pocket. When closing does it have lock stick?

Re: PM2 compression lock issue after disassembly
it feels heavier when pressing to release the lock but drops down nicely. opening, it sticks a bit compared to my other pm2's. just not as smooth.

Try rotating the stop pin into a different position.
I see, said the blind man.

Re: PM2 compression lock issue after disassembly
Do you carry dip-down? Some aftermarket scales are thinner and allow the clip screws to interfere with the washers.
I'd also suggest experimenting with the spacer screws a bit. Tightening them down too much can cause more friction around the blade. This is assuming your pivot screws are set properly for your taste.

Try putting the original scales back on.

Re: PM2 compression lock issue after disassembly
If the machined recesses on the inside of the scales are not machined to the original spec, they can affect the tension of the lock bar spring. That increases the lock tension and the pressure of the detent ball during the opening arc.

Re: PM2 compression lock issue after disassembly
It is a bit better, now. I changed to the G10 scales and it was ok. Moved back to the micarta ones and as Michael points out it seems the machining is not as deep as on the G10's. Not by much but, yeah . .. solution was to not tighten the 2 scale screws on the compression side as much.
It's working now 'ok' ... just not as smooth as some other PM2's but usable.
Thank you
Patrick

Re: PM2 compression lock issue after disassembly
I find the best action and fit is with the factory scales. I don’t buy aftermarket scales anymore. Just my experience!Patrickx wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 12:37 pmhi,
