I assure you guys the edge hasn't been touched. Its simply a bad photo.

Here's a better photo. I don't know why im defending this Gem, but here you go. Its absolutely black FRN and has a factory edge. Is it just too unbelievable that I got a good deal on it?

If I may guess, I would guess you are defending this Gem because we(forumites) take pride in our Spyderco collection. Not surprising what might feel like an attack would elicit a defence. It is hard to dissipate the polarization. Nice knife anyway.

Just to keep it polarized but on topic.... Flexible or rigid fillet knife?

My pick is for a flexible Spyderco fillet knife, folder would be best IMHO. My reasoning is, Spyderco has a number of rigid fish knives including the Siren which is still in stock at SFO.

Im praying for a flexible Spyderco filet knife or semi-flexible at the least. I love the Catherman, but the blade is a bit stiff for my liking when fileting fish.

Speaking of rigid blades, I have always thought my Endura 4 would work pretty well as a filet knife. It has an enormous blade that I think would filet large fish well. I just haven't tried it yet. Thanks for the input guys!

I was recently able to purchase a brand new Spyderco Catcherman on ebay for a very reasonable price of $150. I had never seen or held one in hand until it arrived in the mail. I absolutely love the knife. What surprised me was the large size of the knife. Its a much better filet knife than I expected. Now its time for Spyderco to improve on this beauty. Its clear that a Spydie filet knife would sell, so why not? Im fine with the overall shape, blade, and size of the Catcherman, but it could be improved with Magnacut, LC200N, or something much more corrosion resistant. I think a more perfect filet knife would also have a thinner, more flexible, blade. I know they can do this, so why not? Lets go Spyderco, we need an improved filet knife. I have a feeling it's coming.

Wow, that looks a lot like an Emerson Persian but with better materials and craftsmanship for a fraction of the price.

It would be great if Spyderco would start making them again, without the serrations, for fileting fish and other activities :ninja

I have been asking for one for years. Unfortunately if we see a Phil Wilson fillet knife it will likely be a Chinese made knife with 8cr13 like the Bow River.

I like fillet knives flexible so a super steel may not be the best choice. CPM154 or similar might be a good option.
