Lil’ Native Lightweight – Spyderco Design Production Sample 2023

#101

Post by Mr Blonde »

The Lil’ Native Lightweight features a really light and compact blade, even compared to the MicroJimbo and Lil’ Native Wharncliffe. The linerless FRN handle truly makes the Lil’ Native a featherweight. The Lil’ Native Lightweight is very similar to the lightweight Dragonfly.

Interesting to see a back lock - I thought the comp lock had won out for this model.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Microjimbo and Lil Naive LW back to back!!! Hardly gets better than that! :smiling-heart-eyes :party-face

I find it interesting that the Microjimbo blade is listed at 1.97” as I would’ve expected it to be closer to 2.5 inches. Still 110% in on that one.

Still hoping for some actual new designs though! :crossed-fingers

Manbug Leaf – Spyderco Design Production Sample 2023

#105

Post by Mr Blonde »

The Manbug will be offered in a leaf shape blade, after customer demand for this blade style option of the Manbug. It basically is a micro-version of the double distal triangle blade shape that Spyderco is known for.

There's always the option I made a mistake or it was measured slightly differently than Spyderco would....

Counter Critter – Spyderco Design Production Sample 2023

#108

Post by Mr Blonde »

The Counter Critter is a larger version of the Counter Puppy (also shown for comparison), which was released in 2020. Eric explained that this design follows a trend that started a few years ago in Japan, to make kitchen knives that you can put down without the edge touching the table. The 7CR17 steel uses less carbon than most other steels used by Spyderco. The idea behind this is that the steel will still perform fairly well, and that it resists more ‘abuse’; people would probably put it in a dishwasher since it’s a knife made in China. The Counter Critter will also come with purple handles in the future, as well as a serrated edge.

SharpKeeper – Spyderco Design Production Sample 2023

#109

Post by Mr Blonde »

The SharpKeeper will be a basic accessory to protect your kitchen knife. The holes help to keep moisture down. The inside is lined with a velvet-like material to help guide and ease the knife in the cover. I’m not sure what the material is, but it felt a lot like Boltaron or Kydex/Concealex.

Did Spyderco make any mention of why the holes are offset the way they are on those sheaths? Was a straight line just too simple? I don’t have OCD but looking at those sheaths makes me feel like I do!

Noticed that the specs for the Lil Native LW above show a blade thickness of 3.2mm. It was my understanding that the LW was supposed to be thinner blade stock. Did I get that wrong?

The linerless FRN handle truly makes the Lil’ Native a featherweight. The Lil’ Native Lightweight is very similar to the lightweight Dragonfly. However, the Lil’ Native features a 4-way clip mount option and it’s made in the USA, like all Native designs.

Thank you for yet another batch of pictures and interesting insight!
Is it possible that your thickness measure could be off? I’m pretty sure Eric at some point said the LW would come with a thinner blade stock

That is very possible, I think I went with the catalog listing for the regular lil native.

I could very well be off, I didn't get a good measure of it and went with the catalog listing for the regular lil Native.

Wow, just wow! Thanks Wouter for returning to your splendid Springtime gift-giving.

A LW Native Chief? A Lil’Native Wharncliffe? A Military2 AND a MagnaCut PM2?!

All will get my money.

I’ll have my first BD1N, the wharnie by Eric that the Q-Ball could have been, a PM2 XL, and a presumed Salt PM2 with the Caribbean’s fantastic G10 grippiness (but without the yellow I happen to like).

Now, if Spyderco would only offer an invisibility cloak to wrap around any one these or my other Spydies, they would not need to languish at home whenever I one-bag it somewhere by air.

Lil Native FRN looks like the best of both worlds... Backlock and Wireclip. I'm in.
