Manix Modifications. What have you done? What do you want to do?
Re: Manix Modifications. What have you done? What do you want to do?
Do it Rick. Everyone here that has tried them loves them. I am just waiting for the right Manix to pop up.

if rockscale makes one compatible with a lw, i'll get two magnacut manixes. i'd keep one lw and use the other for when i'm not in shorts.TkoK83Spy wrote: I've been eyeing those plain Rockscale non skinny. $106 is a pretty good price, based on the examples I've seen posted.
i suppose we're in the minority for liking the palm swell. like i said, i could almost understand it if it reduced the pocket profile, but i just takes away one of the best parts of the design for me. that swell is one of the main reasons i prefer the manix to the pm2 or shaman, which are both narrower under the ring and pinky fingers.

Re: Manix Modifications. What have you done? What do you want to do?
This thread (and all the internet chatter) has convinced me to modify my knife. I have a set of AWT scales in Brick Red on the way. As soon as I get them, I will post up with pics...
Re: Manix Modifications. What have you done? What do you want to do?
I have a Manix 2 CF/Cruwear that has very rough action. I sent it in to W&R rand it came back the same as I sent it. Now I’m thinking at minimum try new washers, but I don’t know where to find them. I do like the CF scales, but the AWT liner less scales look like a really nice option to eliminate any possible issues from the liners or washers that might be causing problems with the action.

Thanks! I'm not sure how it that happened, but definitely a lighting trick as they are linerless.ncrockclimb wrote: ↑Sun Feb 26, 2023 11:47 amThat is a beautiful knife!
Quick question: It looks like it has scales, but you state you are using AWT Agent Linerless Scales. What gives? Is that a trick of the lighting?
again, That knife looks amazing!!!
Here's a shot of the scales showing the lack of liners:

Re: Manix Modifications. What have you done? What do you want to do?
I specifically love them for the weight reduction (about 30% over the G10) and the modified ergonomics (lack of belly) work a bit better for my somewhat smaller hands (Size M gloves). I also like the added chamferring compared to the stock G10 version.
They are not good if you are looking for something that is incredibly grippy as you are losing the texturing on the G10 and the nubs on the bottom of the liners. These scales are for more casual cutting; if I was wearing regularly using a knife with gloves, this would not be my first choice.
I'd buy them again in a heartbeat.

Cool, man! ^^^ I like how you modded both ends. It's like Manix and Yojimbo had a love child. This makes me wonder if a Michael Janich modified Manix could be a thing?! The "Janich Manich."
Folks, if you have not seen Casper's amazing work in the Mule subforum you should check it out; the dude is talented:

Re: Manix Modifications. What have you done? What do you want to do?
Nice pics of the AWT Agent Scales. They do look really good visually. Was looking into getting these but not sure about the fact they are painted (Cerakote) aluminium, so wont patina as well as Ti, brass, copper etc, as paint just chips off, and combined with the fact that they delete one/all of the liners, so all in all its kinda trading strength for weight. Aluminium is not famous for being particularity strong. Not sure i care about weight that much. Its a pocket knife so not a big deal in the weight department. An iphone weighs about 5 times more than any knife anyway. I actually like a bit of heft to things when its a tool i am using. Anyone care to convince me otherwise? If so i will happily buy some... As i said, they do look very very nice to the eye...
Re: Manix Modifications. What have you done? What do you want to do?
I would read about their anodized version. Holds up much better than the cerakote finish.

AWT Brick Red scales w/ 15V blade = perfection

Re: Manix Modifications. What have you done? What do you want to do?
Agree ^^^ very nice indeed. Do those skinny AWT scales cut down on the notorious pocket-hoggery of the Manix? Or does it carry pretty much the same before vs after AWT conversion?

Re: Manix Modifications. What have you done? What do you want to do?
It is significantly lighter (122g vs 96g). The Manix is not a small knife, but IMO it was not a pocket hog with the G10 scales. I carried the AWT version today and found the decrease in weight makes the knife much less noticeable. My translucent green FRCP 20CV weighs in at 82g, and I find that the difference between the AWT and the FRCP is hardly noticeable.
I am a HUGE fan of the AWT scales. I also have them on my Benchmade Bugout. Both scale sets fit perfectly. The fit and finish is amazing. I liked the 15V from the factory and almost felt like I was desecrating it by modifying it. However, the AWT scales are just fantastic and make Spyderco's amazing knife even better.
