Swayback lockup issue

#1

Post by SaisonLife »

Hey everyone, I rarely post here but have benefitted from all the great information and recommendations over the years. I recently received a new swayback from bladehq during the sale. This is my first framelock/RIL knife so I am not sure what is normal or not.

While opening and closing it I realized it wasn't locking up on a bunch of my opens. If it is flicked or opened quickly it will lock. On a slower opening it will lock up 50/50 unless forced to by opening the blade further despite it being open. Also when the knife is locked disengaging the lock and releasing it it does not lock up again. When this is done the lock gets back into place only if you "open" the blade even further.

Any thoughts? I'm assuming I should send it in but since it's my first framelock I'm a little uncertain. Also the blade is so **** nice I don't want it to leave haha.

Bumping to see if anyone with experience with this model could shed some light on that issue.

I got a Swayback over a year ago, and it had a similar issue. I've handled other framelocks without this problem, so it was definitely an issue with that particular sample. I ended up returning the knife due to the lock. Plus it didn't fit my hand so well. I'd contact the retailer to see if they will send you another one.

So I was debating for awhile because I really loved this knife and was hoping the issue with lockup just wasn't there. However I realized how stupid that is and contacted bladehq. It does not look like at the moment I can get a replacement through them but only a full refund. I'm happy I guess a solution is there but man am I bummed I missed out on the excellent sale and purchased something way out of my range for once. This kind of sucks I really love the design and blade.

Couldn't you send it in to Spyderco instead?

I would send it in to Spyderco's warranty and repair department. They'll take good care of you and it'll give them the opportunity to see the problem

I've thought of sending it in but I honestly have over a dozen Spyderco knives now and have never had an issue. I'm worried that somehow this issue is something wrong with me, and the back and forth seems like a hassle. I'm probably going to refund and try and handle different framelock knives in person and go from there. Looking at the retail cost my inlay sebenza grail isn't far off.

I hate to bump my own thread but I'm curious if anyone else has had bad experiences with BladeHQ. They received my return before Christmas and I've yet to receive a refund. They will not reply to my emails anymore. I guess I'll have to do a charge back with my CC.

Try calling them on the phone. Be super nice and very positive, yet still assertive.
