Buying one Spyderco is like eating one Oreo. Can't be done.

I only needed the PM2. But collecting isn't about "need" it's about "want" and I wants them all :p

I have most of the models I've wanted and several variations of some of those. Because of that I've slowed my buying quite a bit. I'm not even buying models from other brands. It's a bottomless pit if you let it be. I've finally started enjoying what I have and spending my fun money on other things. I'll pick up a new Spyderco model if I like it and I feel it's different enough from what I have. So I voted that I don't think I'll ever be finished because you never know what cool model they might come up with but I'm pretty content at the moment

Thought about this some more and I dont think I'd be finished even if Sal brought me into the R&D room and told me to make anything I can dream up. Even if I had "the one" there will always be new steels, different handle materials. I have already satisfied my NEEDS but that's the lifestyle side of all this, there is still the WANTS and that's the hobby side and that side will always want to experience different things no matter how good I've got it. Realistically every one of us have one knife that could carry us to our graves, it's just not that simple or we probably wouldn't be here.

Hard to say, really. There are no current models I "need," but if something interesting comes along (like a K390 Stretch 2 XL), I will buy one.

I’m 160ish Spydies deep and I’m still searching! I only buy the ones that I find interesting in some way. I’ve also been collecting and using since 1998. Part of the fun is cataloging them and rotating the classics in ever so often.

For me I think 6-10 but maybe less. I like to use them vs collect them and any much more I don't feel like I could use them all.

I'm not a collector. Once I find the one that checks all the boxes for me, I won't feel the need to buy anymore.

There are too many interesting variations and sheer number of different models in the SpyderCatalog, that I doubt I'll ever be "done". We'll see. For now, I'm greatly enjoying the journey.

I don't know, because I've never counted how many Spydercos I have. I'm guessing under 50, probably well under.

I'm not currently buying any more knives for an indefinite period of time, but may still get a few more in the future. My knife accumulating will be complete when I don't feel like buying anymore. It could've been done with years ago, and I may well be done right now.

There is no one "perfect" knife, at least not for me. There's always "something" that has kept even my favorites from being perfect. So I'm not searching for a "grail" knife.

OTOH, for practical purposes, I wouldn't 'need more than one good Spyderco knife (paired with one good SAK) to cover my pocketknife needs for the rest of my life. But as riclaw said earlier, it's not really about need, but want.

Even if Spyderco developed a super-knife that had crazy edge retention but could easily be resharpened on a pant leg; that made beautiful feather sticks but is robust enough to baton logs; that had a handle that changed color based on the owner's mood --I would buy it and be content for maybe two days.

Then I'd ask Sal for a tanto version lol

I voted never, because Spyderco will keep releasing new models and/or new steels, and I have no idea what those will be.

Current production, recent reveals, and models I think are coming (e.g. Stretch 2 XL Salt, Manix 2 Salt) quickly put me in the 11-20 range. Plus, any eventual Magnacut Salt models, interesting Mule Teams, etc., will be likely targets. Plus cool models I never had a crack at, that might pop up on the secondary market. And so on, and so on...

I selected 21+ as a joke, but the reality of it is I'd like to have at least 10 to 15 more right now. I suspect there will be far more than 21 that I'd like to have.

Having cash available when they drop is my major malfunction.

I don't really buy knives that I don't think fill a practical role for me, but I also don't have a lot of excess income. If I had more money, I would probably slowly buy some more, but I really only think I would need two to cover my practical needs, and I can very well do with the one I have. My Endura should cover me, but I also think it would be practical to have something smaller and a little more EDC friendly.

So I'd say two and my collection could be complete, but it could get a little larger, I just wouldn't feel a great need or want really.

I voted a dozen. It would take some work to get my collection down to a dozen, but that should do it.

I’m not a active collector, I don’t see the need to hoard knives, and I don’t care for owning several knives really close in the same size, or capabilities category. I like to have have a trim collection that covers any type of knife I may need to use. I Can’t see myself having a collection of spydercos that exceeds 10 at most nowadays.

I will never not enjoy buying and using new knives. There are still plenty that I would like to try out.

I also definitely have more than I need. Similar to Bolster’s question the other day, I think I could live with just a PM2 or a Stretch.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

I try to focus on things that bring me joy.

Many Spyderco bring me joy.

Why on earth would I impose a limit on the joy in my life? Affordability, legality and attainability will do that for me!

I'm not much of a "collector" any more. I still have at least 30 knives but they are all so different and for different tasks. I sold a lot of them on AZCK.

I'd like to pick up more Native Chiefs before they are all gone. Duplicates don't bother me. Once they're gone, they're gone.
