How many Spydercos do you need to feel like your collection is complete?
Title. How many Spydercos would you need to feel your collection is complete?
I answered 2. LC200N PE Swick and a DLC Military 2 would make mine feel complete.
There would still be others I'm interested in checking out, like the ATR2 and enuff 2, but I would feel done after a Swick salt and Millie 2.
How about you?

I've had a 'collection' for years. A complete collection? Never. And/or when I have ALL the Knives.
There's more that I want than I have years/money to buy.

I voted never.
Collecting Spyderco knives is like being in the mob.
Every time I think I'm out, Some new model drags me back in again.
So, It's kind of a cyclical thing with me I guess.

Just one more, it's always just one more. Actually I'm just trying to finish up collecting steels. 15v, then whatever MT comes out that tickles my fancy.

Complete Spyderco collection? That’s not a thing.

I'm pretty happy with the current state of my accumulation.. but there will always be some new model that comes out I must have, or some crazy deal I just can't resist. Voted "I don't think I'll ever be finished."

Voted it may never be completed only because it fits me the best. I don't have a goal aside from just exploring the hobby, I end up with whatever I end up with. I could stop today if I found the right knife.

Haha, I know the feeling. Besides the two I listed I'm 100% content with mine, but like I mentioned I'm sure something will pop up in one of the next reveals to make me change my tune.

N+1=X
N = Current number of knives in collection
N = Current number of knives in collection
Re: How many Spydercos do you need to feel like your collection is complete?
I don't see an end to this madness!!! I enjoy trying out models that are new to me. I like the occasional exclusive that catches my eye. I enjoy talking ergonmics and design. All feeds into giving another model a go. I do not have many duplicates and personally do not see the need for duplicates myself, so I guess it could all come to an end at some point if I try them all out. But those Glessers like to surprise us with new designs from time to time so...
Plus, I like coming here and talking about model designs, ergonomics, and steel with you all. I need to keep my ongoing education updated with new model "research" and "testing". What, am I going to come on here and talk weather?

So easy to confuse want with need in this kind of exercise. I selected 1-5 but after second thoughts it's more accurately 6-10. The thing is though, it took me many, many more Spydies bought and used to come to that conclusion. Plus I'm sure that I will be rotating new ones in and old ones out. So 'never finished' really resonates, but if I boil it down to 'need' the number becomes much more discrete.

I have purged once and now approaching what I originally had , so stopping is not an issue . I only buy what appeals to my personal interest so helps narrow knives in collection more than in the past .

Re: How many Spydercos do you need to feel like your collection is complete?
As long as new models and new steels keep coming, I don't see an end in sight anytime soon.
I tend to simultaneously go through an accumulation stage and distillation stage with my collecting. I'll buy what I like and sell things off as I stop liking them. Helps keep the numbers in balance and I'm able to learn what features I appreciate the most in order to better target the next acquisition.

Re: How many Spydercos do you need to feel like your collection is complete?
MG - I had myself down to a handful - Police 3 PE, Pacific Salt PE, Tasman Salt SE, Spin PE, and Aqua Salt PE. That setup served me quite well. I'm planning a purge sometime in 2023 to get back to the basics and trim the fluff.
It took me over auditioning over 200 models before I figured my "one." Loved the journey but happy to be at my destination. I could never purchase another knife and be content with what I have, and that's a nice feeling.olywa wrote: ↑Thu Dec 08, 2022 12:34 pmSo easy to confuse want with need in this kind of exercise. Re: How many Spydercos do you need to feel like your collection is complete?
I only need 2 knives. Both the same model. One for EDC and the other for a backup. My collection grew as I searched for the perfect knife. I tried many models until I finally found 'The One'. But now I have become attached to some of the less fortunate knives in my collection and I am having a hard time letting them go.
Make time for the important things in life, and learn to enjoy the little things more.
Re: How many Spydercos do you need to feel like your collection is complete?
For me I'm certain it's a journey without a destination. No goal. No grail. No collection to complete. I just love knives.
Re: How many Spydercos do you need to feel like your collection is complete?
it's a strange place... i am content with a manix and a pacific salt se. that's all i need, but i still like the other knives i've accumulated over time. to be honest, the pacific and the manix lw were some of my earliest purchases and i was totally happy with them. the rest of the purchases have been more about building the collection with unique designs i like for various reasons, rather than searching for what i like the best. now, i feel i'm turning a corner by starting to collect more manix models. that wasn't really on purpose though. i bought the m390 so i could finally have a g10 manix. then the rec exclusive came out and i couldn't pass that one up. now the 15v manix is coming out right when i'm considering trying some tool steels. there's also the magnacut manix on the horizon and there's no way i'm passing that one up.
i don't need any more knives, but i know spyderco is still going to put out interesting designs and steels that i will have to try out.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.
