Show your Mule

I think I’m ready to call my first mule project “done”. I got the REX76 Mule as only the blade with the intention of making my own scales and sheath. I learned a LOT along the way and will probably do things differently next time I try this, but a finished project is better than a project never started.

For the scales, I made my own micarta out of two old pairs of jeans. Epoxied them onto the tang and then used Chicago screws for hardware.

For the sheath I made a horizontal carry sheath out of some leather I had sitting around. Wet formed it around the knife and used some brown shoe polish to color the darker part.

My first Mules. Ironwood on the first and stabilized Redwood burl on the second. I did the scales in my garage.

I don't know if other pics came up and am surprised I can see one. There was belt sander, cordless jigsaw, and router involved.

For those who live in Texas, this is Ashe Juniper, AKA Mountain Cedar, stabilized with Cactus Juice. I’m not 100% sure the stabilization fully worked. I made the handles a bit on the thick side and really love this knife now!
