Massad Ayoob pics

#1

Post by goke »

Checking if the figs are ready, another week or so should suffice. The Ayoob has been hogging about 90% of my pocket time, I love the shape of the blade on this thing. I need to pick up a serrated version as I would find it more usefull in the cutting tasks I find myself doing.

The Massad Ayoob is one of my top 10 Spyderco knives of all time. I can't for the life of me understand why it does not have a huge following. I won another one last Sunday night and I just can't get enough of that knife. I carry one every chance I get.

It is one Spyderco that I believe in about 3 years from now will be a very high priced Spyder to get ahold of. It seems like the serrated version is a little harder to find than the plain edge which is unusual for Spyderco. The only 2 I think that have that distinction are the Ayoob and the JD Smith. I don't know of any other Spyders that the Serrated edge is hard to come by.

I think it ought to be in the Spyderco Hall of Fame as far as Tactical knives go  :spyder:

Nice pictures Goke, thanks. Interesting design it is. From the days that a tactical knife had to be linerlock tanto. This one stands out. I see a lot in common with the Persian.
I think your insight is sound JD.

Hi Goke - Hi Glockintosh - I fully aggree with you concerning the Spyderco C60 Massad Ayoob. Again we are dealing with one of the most underrated Spyderco tactical knives ever, and what a shame it is as this knife carries everything in it that MA has accumulated during his professional and intructors carreer.

Certainly this knife will be highly sought after in a couple of years. It has never been popular as the end line users have never fully understood the tremendous potential of this knife. This is where Spyderco is always way ahead of the competition but unfortunately also way ahead of it's following. A much more pro-active information and Product promotion program could work wonders here. Also pre-publications in the "News" section of the website would help. Have the designes of co-op models tell about the Why & How of their designs. These designers will certainly be delighted to explain their designs in depth as they will also benefit from sell out sales..... (LOL)

BTW. Please check out the articles Massad Ajoob has written for the SureFire owned publication "Combat Tactics" 2002/"Weapons and Lights for Home defence", 2003/"White light Reality", 2004/"Travel Safe". Excellent reading and down to earth, real world advice! Read them!

Do I go right in the assumption that behind the nick- Glockintosh hides a very distinctive an well known SD Instructor?????

Ayoob Versatility

#7

Post by JD Spydo »

The Ayoob has quite a bit more versatility than most people give it credit for. You can even fillet fish with that knife because of it's ergonomic design. I must admit when it first came out I was a little skeptical about the Un-orthadox design. But like many other Spydercos I realized quickly that it had to be handled and used to be fully appreciated. I have skinned deer and other small game with it and it is very agile because of it's blade configuration.

You know the first time I saw the Shabaria I thought it was just as weird as a space alien. But when I got my first Shabaria and played with it and used it on a couple of cutting chores I soon realize that it too was designed for use and not necessarily for looks. But it and the Ayoob both have an architectural beauty of their own that I have learned to fully appreciate. Everytime now when a Shabaria, An Ayoob, A Centofante II C-50 or a host of other unconventional looking Spyders go up for auction I just can't stay away from them  .

I am willing to bet that 5 years from now the Massad Ayoob C-60 will be very coveted as a collector piece ;) :spyder:

Nice pics Goke. The figs in my yard never look that good. The Ayoob is one knife I can't wait to get. The design is so different than most other knives, but it does make complete sense. Thanks for sharing.

Sorry to disappoint you, Jurphaas. I'm just fond of Glocks and Macintosh computers :)

But curious as to who you were thinking of!

Hi Glockintosh - Based on the picture in your post which I believe to be of Massad Ajoob, I assumpted that it was him who was engaged in this specific post discribing the knife designed by him.
Alas....., not him but you and still a very underrated knife with excellent potential as a collectors piece.

Oh, haha :) No, that was my joke, see: the title of the thread is "Massad Ayoob pics," and I know he meant the knife, but I posted a pic of Massad Ayoob.

So anyway, don't worry about it. It was a dumb joke anyway! :D

Cheers,
Glockintosh
